Norman Lock and Son Funeral Service is an independent family owned and managed funeral home based in the rural village of Black Torrington. The Lock family has been serving the local community for more than 95 years and has conducted thousands of funerals. The origins of the family business can be traced back to the late 19th century in Shebbear, where Wentworth Lock (Wenty to his friends) lived and worked as the local carpenter.
When someone dies there are many arrangements and decisions to be made at a time of personal distress. Chris or Kate Lock will visit you at home and talk you through everything that needs to be done. They are experienced in local administrative formalities and will guide you through and help you with everything, including registering the death, placing announcements in local papers, arranging burial or cremation and other matters.
Norman Lock and Son's Private Chapel of Rest is in the peaceful, rural village of Black Torrington, Beaworthy. You are welcome to visit at a time convenient to you. We understand that sometimes relatives and friends have a long distance to travel, so we can accommodate your needs, without putting restrictions on time and length of visit.
We are able to provide, erect, maintain and refurbish many styles of memorials, to suit your personal taste and requirements and will help you to choose a beautifully crafted memorial to your loved one - from a simple headstone to an individual memorial, designed to your own specification. We will also take care of the administrative arrangements required by the church, chapel or other location where the memorial is to be sited.
