At Caerwys Veterinary Surgery we pride ourselves on our own out-of-hours service to our clients, so that your animal will always be seen by one of our vets. Our aim is to provide the best possible care for our patients and their owners and we pride ourselves in being able to offer a personal service with continuity.

One of the major benefits of running our own emergency service is that our staff will have full access to your pet's medical history, even if you usually visit our branch surgery in Rhyl. Both our Caerwys and Rhyl surgeries have fully equipped operating theatres and hospitalisation facilities.
Services
Zoe joined the practice in 1990, after leaving the Royal Veterinary College and has stayed ever since. Amanda joined the practice in 1989 and has worked here since, through to becoming Practice Manager and a partner. Sian joined the Rhyl surgery in 1986 and has worked here since, now being a partner.
We also recommend yearly vaccination against kennel cough, which is spread by an aerosol spray effect. All dogs that meet other dogs, whether on walks or at dog clubs or shows are susceptible. Most kennels will insist on the dog having a vaccine against kennel cough, to reduce the spread of the disease.
Flea and tick control is important, especially in dogs that are walked or travel to tick infested areas. Ticks can carry diseases that are then passed to the dogs when they attach. There are either spot on products or oral products available and our staff can advise you on the best product for your animal.
We recommend that you get your bitch spayed, to avoid unwanted pregnancy, uterine infections and ovarian and uterine cancer. It also can decrease the risk of mammary cancer in the bitch in later life. Our staff are happy to discuss whether this is carried out before or after your bitch's first season, as this can be decided on individual cases.
We have our own x-ray machine at the Caerwys surgery for instant results. We also have a dedicated small animal ultrasound scanner, to complement diagnosis in more involved cases. We have recently installed an in-house blood analyser, to allow for quicker results in more urgent cases, or to do pre-operative bloods to assess anaesthetic risk assessment.

A quick and easy consultation under covid regulations. I had to book a timed appointment and book my dog in at reception on arrival. The vet then came out to the car park and took the dog inside for the examination.

We are on holiday and needed to take our elderly dog to the vet with urgent health concerns. We couldn't have been more impressed with this veterinary practice who booked us in for an appointment within an hour of ringing. The vet, Kate, was compassionate and caring and made the whole process much less stressful, for us and our dog Millie. I can't thank her enough.
