In order to comply with social distancing, and for the safety of our staff, we have made some significant changes to how we interact with you. We are still dedicated to providing the highest level of veterinary care and ensuring animal welfare, but we need to protect our staff first and foremost.
We are seeing all cases requiring veterinary attention or advice with the vet, including puppy and kitten vaccinations, neutering, medication checks, and of course sick and injured pets.We are offering routine vet nurse appointments such as flea and worming, weight checks and nail clips. We ask all clients to wait in the car/car park, and call us when you have arrived for your appointment.

The modern hospital at our Saffron Walden practice provides 24 hour care to our in-patients, whilst day surgeries are carried out across all three of our branches.
Mercer and Hughes Veterinary Surgeons offer a wide range of veterinary services, including routine vet consultations, free nurse clinics, specialist weight management clinics and our own in-house emergency vet service. Mercer and Hughes provides a 24 hour emergency vet service for all our small animal clients at our Saffron Walden vet hospital where there are staff on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
From routine annual boosters and general health checks to emergency visits, our team of vets are on hand to keep you pet fighting fit. Just as with humans, it is essential to look after your pet's teeth to help prevent bad breath, gum disease and tooth decay. Digital X-Rays are quicker than traditional X-Rays.
At Mercer and Hughes we prefer to use digital radiography over traditional X-Rays because Digital X-Rays are quicker. As a result your pet doesn't have to be under sedation or general anaesthetic as long and they give a better image so we can detect problems more easily. X-rays are able to give us more information about different parts of the body that we can't easily see or feel.
