Our site has been in continuous use as a Veterinary Surgery since Mr Brunskill MRCVS qualified in 1878 and moved to Bishops Stortford. The veterinary work in those days was mainly farm animals and horses, with the odd farm dog and a rare cat. The famous racehorse 'Golden Miller' was treated here, and Sir Frederick Hobday FRCVS used to visit here to perform his now universal Hobday procedure for horses with laryngeal paralysis.
We now concentrate solely on companion animals and since 1985, have held the accolade of "Hospital" status, the highest standard awarded to general practice veterinary clinics in the UK. Today our head vets, Alison Somers, Ruth Jackson, and Neil Macleod, continue to push the practice to ever higher levels of clinical excellence and customer service.

Services
Each year 1 in 3 pets is injured or becomes ill* and needs urgent veterinary treatment. Insurance can help you cover the cost of these unexpected bills leaving you free to concentrate on helping an important member of your family recover. The Bishop's Stortford Veterinary Hospital recommend having your pet insured and are accredited as an Appointed Representative of Vetsure Pet Insurance.
BSVH believes that a proactive, preventative approach to your pet's healthcare is far better than waiting until your pet is vulnerable, ill or suffering to put things right. We want to make responsible pet ownership simple and affordable, which is why we have designed these Plans.
Wellness Plans are NOT pet insurance: Wellness Plans cover the regular things - like vaccinations, flea, worm and parasite treatment, health checks and advice - that pet insurance generally doesn't.However young or old your pet is, a Wellness Plan is designed to adapt to your pet's needs, from puppy or kitten, to adulthood and throughout senior years.

Due to the severe movement restriction imposed by the government, we must limit the reasons we leave our house to only those that absolutely are essential. The advice from the RCVS, the governing body for vets, has decreed, that where possible we should try to treat our patients using remote technology.
We vaccinate against feline influenza, calicivirus, panleukopaenia and where appropriate - feline leukaemia virus. We ask you wait until we send a vaccine reminder, which may be around 2-3 months after the vaccine due date. Delaying these vaccines for a short time poses a very small risk to these pets, and allows us the time to catch up with the backlog of delayed vaccines whist still offering the most urgent vaccines ( eg kittens ).
Hydrotherapy is derived from the Greek word meaning water healing. It is controlled aquatic exercise in heated sanitized water. A combination of warmth, buoyancy and hydrostatic pressure reduces pain and swelling, promotes muscle relaxation and improves circulation and healing. The warmth of the water will relax the muscles.
