Services
We're a family run business with no intention of ever "going corporate". This allows us to deliver the care our clients want, day and night, 365 days a year. Over the last 28 years many things have changed at Barn Lodge; faces, furnishings and fury friends but what has remained constant is our unrivalled dedication to animal welfare.
Laser therapy involves the use of medical lasers to aid the healing of tissue post operatively. Prevention is always better than cure however if you think your pet is suffering from dental disease please get in touch. Hydrotherapy is an excellent way for your pet to recover from an injury, lose weight or just gain confidence in water.
The Ormskirk practice is home to our hospital, awarded tier three status by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. We undertake all procedures in house allowing our patients to be familiar with one environment and one team. Orrell is our oldest branch serving Wigan, Billinge, Upholland and Shevington.
These are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can be arranged by contacting the duty veterinary surgeon. Clients who are registered with other practices should follow their own practice advice and adhere to the directions given by them for emergency cover. This is in compliance with the Code of Conduct for veterinary surgeons sections 3.23-3.27.
If you are considering a career in veterinary medicine we encourage you to get in touch and arrange work experience as early as possible. This allows you to fully understand the commitment involved and make sure it's the job for you, it also ensures that you can be accommodated.
Work experience placements are competitive and we can only take one student at a time, because of this we ask that you send a copy of your CV and a covering letter to the practice manager who will be able to help you further. We provide placements to both home and international students with on site accommodation.

I can not fault this practice in any way, our dog Ruby had a bad skin infection and weeping, bleeding from her scratching and biting deep in her wound, (this caused the infection) we made a call to them for her to be seen and was urgently got an appointment on the same day, once we arrived we were seen right away and was confirmed an infection, we were reassured all will be fine (being so worried for dog’s wellbeing) put are worries and mind at rest, with care and professionalism and treated Ruby with great care, all will be well, after a cause of medication and antibiotics to treat the wound

I had an absolute awful experience with the southdene vets no compassion what so ever seem more bothered about the money. My dog was scared an stressed getting his needles done and the situation was handled awfully, the vet him self was SO rude how he spoke to me , will definitely not be going back here ever again and i would advice people the same!

Amazing and such good care we have just received for Henry our rabbit and for times before as well when Henry needed vetinary care. Thank you for looking after him for 3 days and getting Henry better last week. Alison is just amazing with rabbits as Henry is not the easiest of rabbits to handle in the vets he goes wild! Thank you for all your care. Henry is getting better all of the time and he is back to being the boss of our household 😀

Amazing vets ! Both my dogs have been here for a couple of years and had nothing but great experiences every visit. Saved my dogs life when we brought her in without appointment and got told she had pyometra which can be fatal however they got her in for an emergency operation within that hour and had her home the next morning like a new dog ! Also started work experience with barn lodge recently and the two days I have been there has been amazing and the staff couldn’t of welcomed me more !❤️

Love this place, the cheapest about, I'm here at least once a week. ( I have over 20 dogs)
Austin is my preferred vet, as I'm so confident in his ability with my babies. He may come across very dry, but he is a lovely man with a dry sense of humour just like myself.
They always squeeze me in if there is an emergency and no messing around. Plus the price is always an added bonus, very reasonable. Highly recommend, dont go anywhere else! ❤
