The Old Vine
An 18th century inn steeped in character and charm, perfectly located just a short walk from Winchester Cathedral and the city centre. Relax in any of our 6 rooms or visit the restaurant/pub to enjoy great food and drink in comfortable surroundings. Found this lovely old pub near the cathedral and popped in for a quick drink.

Lovely old world charm, but with really friendly young bar staff, and a great range of real ales and dare I say Gin! The food looked great, will come back and eat soon. Stayed for just one night, warm welcome, polite and attentive staff, large bedroom with comfy bed, spotlessly clean, tea, coffee, hot chocolate making facilities, water and juice in the mini fridge, dressing gowns slippers and complimentary toiletries.
Services
Our spacious and stylish guest rooms at The Old Vine - some with views of Winchester Cathedral and the Square - offer a superior level of comfort and charm. A spacious and bright twin / double room overlooking the patio at the rear of the building, beautifully furnished with a mixture of Victorian, Art Deco and contemporary pieces, and dcor from designer Nina Campbell.

We had a booking from 6-7:30. We were reminded on arrival and again during the meal that we had to be out by 7:30. There are more polite ways to achieve this outcome. The squid entree was high on batter, the fish pie mains were bland with too much dry potato mash. The greens were good. The atmosphere was good and the dessert was good. The prices were reasonable. Hence 3/5.

Superb location. Our room 'Osborne and Little' was delightful although the shaver point was dead so couldn't use my shaver or charge our tooth brush.
Take note: The rooms are above the bar area and ours was not a quiet room. General hubbub from below could be an issue if you need tranquility then this is not for you. However this does end at when the pub closes.
Staff were very helpful. Parking wasn't too difficult after getting permit from The Old Vine. Dinner was good pub food. I fancied the pie of the day from the blackboard only to find the board said it was 'Sold out' as was the bread and

Visit with friends, had a table booked.very busy as Christmas market on.
Food very average, fish and chips that I had not that hot or tasty and my friends veggy Wellington looked odd and not like a Wellington at all more like a patty ,she said it was dull. Restaurant area not very well lit!
Service charge added automatically which annoys me....

Fantastic food and great service. The home made scotch egg was brilliant. Really nice staff. Lovely setting opposite cathedral. Recommend you book as it can get busy. Highly recommended.

We've walked past several times in the past and always thought it would be nice to pop in for a meal sometime. We were with family this time and we're there for a late lunch. We all thought the meals were great and a nice pint of lager too. I didn't pay quite a hefty service charge though because we ordered at the bar.
