Ian Van Hoof Opticians was established in 1985 with the opening of the Mosborough practice, followed in 1989 by the Swallownest branch. The two practices have now combined in the Swallownest premises, which is all on the ground floor with easy parking. Sight tests are carried out by the owner, Ian Van Hoof, assisted by Dispensing Optician Jean Bailey and receptionists Ann, Gill and Karen.
Between them the staff have many years' experience, most having been here over 20 years! Ian trained at UMIST, now part of Manchester University, and went on to work in North Wales combining mainly private practice with sessions at the eye department of St Asaph hospital. He moved to Sheffield in 1983 working in various practices as a locum optician until opening his first practice in 1985 (see above).

Services
Ian Van Hoof Opticians provide all the usual services such as sight testing and spectacle supply, minor repairs and adjustments on site, and all types of contact lenses and aftercare. Ian has over 20 years' experience of performing home visits for housebound patients, going out one morning per week.
We supply all spectacle lens makes and materials, from standard plastic lenses, to High Index (thinner) plastics or glass lenses. We also supply polycarbonate lenses which are thinner, lighter and virtually unbreakable. All lenses can be multi anti-reflection coated for comfort and better performance especially for computer work or night driving.
