The King's Arms is one of the most popular pub names in England - and that's mostly thanks to King Henry VIII. During the Reformation, when the king disbanded the monasteries, publicans who'd previously nodded to their religion through their pub's name (such as The Lamb and Flag) hastily changed the sign above the door.
Some, such as The King Arms, took up names that reflected their loyalty to the king. Over the years, the pub has changed its name several times. Originally known as the Corner House in the 1500s, it was later known as The Compasses before changing its name to The King's Arms in 1795. Today, we pay tribute to the pub's history by naming our beautiful boutique bedrooms after various kings.

Beautiful pub! We came in for drinks after a meal elsewhere but wish we’d booked here.
It’s the exact pub vibe you want for a lazy Sunday. There are separate sections for drinking and eating, all decorated really nicely. I can’t say much about the food as we didn’t eat but the selection looked great.

We were looking for a pint after our visit to Blenheim Palace, so we walked into Woodstock and found the King’s Arms. It’s an inn, restaurant, and pub. We just stopped for a couple of pints so can’t say much beyond the pub, which is very quaint and traditional and doing good business for the middle of a weekday afternoon. Good beer selection and good service.

Lovely welcome from the staff. Shown to our table and given wine and food menus. Drinks came up swiftly with lovely glasses for the wine. As it was Sunday we all chose a roast and none of us were disappointed. Each had a large portion with enough meat and veg etc. Starters and deserts were also flavoursome and filling. Can't recommend enough.
