On behalf of the pupils, staff and Board of Governors I would like to welcome you to the Long Tower Primary and Nursery School website. Long Tower Primary School is located just outside the Derry Walls, close to the city centre. Our school motto, Our Children First, can be seen in everything we do as a school.

We believe that each child has the potential to achieve their dreams and make meaningful contributions to their society. As a school, we are determined to provide strong foundations for your child's education and journey with them in their learning from Nursery to Primary 7. We are blessed to have outstanding pupils, families and staff who make up the unique Long Tower Primary School community.
Services
Longtower Primary and Nursery School seeks to create a caring, Christian community in which every member feels valued, supported and happy. Our aim is to provide for each child a broad and balanced educational experience, within a Catholic setting, suitably differentiated so that the children can achieve their full potential and become contributing members of society.
At Long Tower P.S. we are an inclusive school and we aim to support all children and their individual needs. Class teachers are responsible for the day to day support for all children in their class. Each class teacher assesses the children continually as part of their teaching. If a teacher feels that a child is not making expected progress they will focus targeted interventions in class.
Staff ensure that teaching and learning is broad, balanced, challenging and supportive at whole class, group and individual level. They use a variety of teaching approaches to maximize the learning opportunities for our pupils. Excellent relationships exist between the staff and we work together as a team for the benefit of all our pupils.
The School Nurse will no longer be supplying schools with a leaflet on how to treat head lice. In school, we continue to ask that long hair be tied up. Please remember that we rely on parents informing us when there is a case of head lice. It is also important that hair which does not have lice is not treated unnecessarily.
A uniform gives the pupils a sense of identity with the school. Children are encouraged to wear the uniform and are expected to come to school neatly dresed each day. It is felt that this uniform is best suited to children of this age group and to the practical nature of the Revised Curriculum. We have a supplier of our uniform who comes in to our school at the end of June to take orders for September.
