We have tried to cover some of the areas of our school life in this website and provide an insight into the values and principles that provide the basis for the teaching and learning which takes place here.

The welfare and education of our children are paramount and we aim to provide a warm and welcoming environment where children feel safe and nurtured enabling them to gain the most benefit from their primary school years whilst preparing them for the next levels of education and beyond. We continually strive to develop links between ourselves and the local community in which we serve.
Services
Woodburn Primary school is located on the North-West edge of Carrickfergus, on the Upper Woodburn Road and junction with the Knockagh Road. There are 7 classes - one class per year group. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and a computer system which connects to the internet though the safety and security of the C2K network.
We aim to promote a happy, safe and stimulating environment where children can develop into confident resourceful, enquiring and independent learners. Article 12: 'You have the right to give your opinion and for adults to listen and take it seriously.' Article 17: 'You have the right to get information that is important to your well being, from radio, newspapers, books, computer and other sources.'
Activities vary and some are currently not available due to the present situation but will be reinstated when it is deemed safe for pupils, staff and parents. Heartstart: Heartstart is an initiative started by The British Heart Foundation. Heartstart teaches people what to do in a life-threatening emergency - simple skills that save lives.
Woodburn Primary School has been a part of the Health Promoting School's initiative since 2006. We encourage children to have a healthy break each day. A healthy break tuck shop is available where children can purchase fruit for 50p at break time. The school canteen serves healthy lunches each day and the children encouraged to drink water throughout the day.
Our school council is comprised of eight pupils from Years 4-7. Each school year, pupils in Year 4 - 7 are asked to write a mandate. These are presented to the rest of the class and after a vote two pupils from each class are elected to join the school council for one year. Each class has a monthly class council meeting to discuss what is happening in school and any areas of change the pupils would like to make.
