Astmoor Primary School
Astmoor Primary School is a community school located in the heart of Castlefields in Runcorn Town. The school shares it's site with an adult learning centre and a private day nursery. We are also very close to the local shops, health centre and community centre. We currently have just under 130 pupils which allows us to operate very much like a large family.

We are proud of the nurturing ethos that we have cultivated in our school and positive relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We offer the children at our school a broad, balanced and fun-filled curriculum. Our school building is modern, bright and inviting and our facilities are excellent.
Services
At Astmoor Primary School we pride ourselves on being a very caring and nurturing community. We promote kindness and compassion through everything we do. We believe that this makes us a strong community where children can be secure in their learning and go on to become good, strong citizens. To prepare the children of the school for life, encouraging and developing a flexibility and adaptability of thought.
Our school curriculum is organised into half-termly, whole-school themes. They are planned on a two year cycle. When planning our themes, we consult with the children in order to find out what they are interested in and what they want to learn about. We also take account of our school community and locality and find genuine links with Global Issues that we feel are important for our children to learn about.
At Astmoor Primary School we believe that English is a fundamental life skill. We believe that English is the key to communicating with others and expressing themselves in all areas of their lives. All elements of our English lessons are designed to ensure that children leave our school being able to read fluently, speak properly (using a wide vocabulary) and to write to a good standard.
Outside of the daily English and Maths lessons that children receive, the rest of the curriculum is delivered through half termly themes. Children are taught content and skills in: geography, history, science, design and technology, art, PE/sport, religious education, music, computing and modern foreign languages (French) for children in KS2.
In 2016, the government made sweeping changes to the way that all children are assessed and tested and how this is reported to parents. The new system is called 'Assessment without Levels'. Children are no longer judged to be working at numerical levels such as 4b or 2a but instead are assessed as to whether they have reached the expected level for the year group they are currently in.
