Services
Long Byres Holiday Cottages are located on a working hill farm in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our six specially designed holiday cottages were converted by the Dean family from the traditional farm buildings in 1979 and are an early example of farm diversification. With the next generation taking over the reins, refurbishments are underway in the cottages to update them once again.
Heather cottage is one of our two largest and first cottages at Long Byres. Providing beautiful views out across Talkin Head Farm and the surrounding countryside. Includes a large open plan kitchen/dining room and living room which opens out onto a wooden balcony. The units feature one master bedroom and two family rooms.
With so many exciting places to explore just a stones throw away you will find something to do whatever the weather has in store!. Located within a 5 minute drive, Talkin Tarn is a perfect spot for all the family to enjoy. The North Pennines is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and UNESCO Global Geopark.
Exit the M6 at J43 and follow signs to Brampton. Once in Brampton you will pick up the B6413 signposted for Castle Carrock and Talkin Tarn. Follow this road until you see signs for the village of Talkin. Once in Talkin take the road to the left of the Blacksmiths Arms and after 400 yards turn right into a small road signposted Talkin Head.

We (14ppl, adults and children) had a great weekend away at this property. The owners were very accomodating and the setting just spoke for itself, beautiful views. It's location is ideal for a quiet weekend away. So many scenic walks available locally. The cottages themselves were very homely and spacious.

This place has a lovely location, very scenic, alluring views and very quiet but I feel the bad point need to be addressed to the property.
This property needs to compromise on a middle ground with the bedroom quilts too thick advised to bring your own if you don't like big fluffy quilts, way to much for the summer as the beds are raised off the floor
This property is a fly magnet, I wasn't made aware untill I was on site, there is only one fly catcher device, these flies bite big time, kept me up the first two nights
I believe all windows should have blinds and nets to stop the flies invading

Loved it! We booked the 2 largest houses which slept 14 of us for a 30th. Amazing location, stunning views and friendly hosts. Can't wait to return. Local pub 15 min walk away served lovely food and drink too. Highly recommended a visit especially if you get the lovely summer weather we did! Views are just perfect.

Can't comment on the actual accommodation as I found the woman running the business to have the worst telephone manner I've ever encountered when trying to book accommodation. I won't post it word for word here but suffice to say answering the phone with a gruff "What do you want?" is going to put people off. Myself included. My advice would be to look elsewhere and let this ignorant woman have the peace she deserves.
