Red Lion
With burning log fires, delicious freshly made food, local real ales, a well stocked wine cellar and a great pub atmosphere the Red Lion makes for a handsome retreat. Our new Stanegate Room which is situated in part of the pub has recently opened to celebrate all things local to Newbrough. It represents local history along with lots of crafts and artwork by local residents and is a showcase for new and developing local Northumberland talent.

There are 6 bedrooms that have all been carefully modernized to a high and luxurious standard to provide comfortable Northumberland accommodation for your stay. We have recently been awarded a "Certificate of Excellence" by Tripadvisor, our combination of great venue, great food and great beers and wines must be working.
Services
An old coaching inn dating back to the 1190's that's been brought back into the 21st Century with all the charm of a country-side Bed & Breakfast. A spacious area to drink, with its original wood and stone work, open log fires and comfortable chairs. Our bar has locally sourced ales and our wine comes from all over the world.
We were booked in to the Red Lion by family so didn't know what to expect but it great! We had a family room, 2 singles and a double, not cramped at all and the place was immaculate. Breakfast was beautiful and everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We would definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting a place to stay in the area.

Sublime.
Consistently on form, over a sustained period, fantastically cooked, exceptionally well presented, delicious food.
Service excellent.
In the Tyne valley, the Red Lion takes some beating and sets the standard amongst some great competition. Consistency of a great chef is the key. It’s a banker.

Fabulous stay at this B&B/Pub/Restaurant. Only 10mins by car from Hexham and this small village is full of history. The owners Sue and Andy go out on a limb to help and make sure your stay is very welcoming. The rooms and little extras are some of the best we have stayed in, better than a 4* hotel and the food (especially Breakfast) was exceptional. The Bar area and locals also made our stay a great experience. We took a very elderly relative with us and the owners looked after him as though he was one of their own. Thank you Sue and Andy for a lovely weekend. We will be back.

We recently stayed overnight and when ordering breakfast I told them that I needed food which was dairy and egg free due to my baby’s allergies. I was told the only option would be to have the full English minus the egg and fried bread. I specifically checked with them about the sausages as often these contain milk but was told they would be fine… by the bar tender. She didn’t actually check with the chef and she didn’t seem particularly interested in my concerns.
My little girl ate some sausage the next morning and had an allergic reaction causing a rash over her face

A two night stay, a birthday gift from last year, moved 4 times because of Covid restrictions. We were made very welcome, our room was accessed through a separate entrance from the pub. A very pleasant room overlooking the front of the pub with a good view. We ate dinner there both nights and the food was very, very good. The pan-fried chalk stream trout was glorious. My travelling companion had the steak and ale pie which he stated was 'the most luxurious pie' he had ever had. The pub is very close to Hadrian's wall and there are plenty of things to see and do in the area

Beautifully cooked, great quality and delicious food. Unpretentious pub grub at it's best which doesn't… compromise on quality. Sparklingly clean with lovely hosts. Highly recommended.

Stunning food and excellent service. My girlfriend is a celiac and they couldn’t do enough to try and adapt the menu for her. Visited twice in the five days we were staying in the area, will definitely be making the trip back.

Fabulous 11th century pub, sympathetically restored and decorated. Warm, friendly atmosphere, landlord and landlady welcoming and chatty. Our evening meal and breakfast were delicious and very tasty. Rooms are decorated to a very high standard and very comfortable. Would highly recommend and will certainly stay there again
