Thank you for taking the time to browse through our website; I do hope you will gain an insight into our school and find any information that you need. We pride ourselves in being a truly inclusive learning community where everyone is enabled to achieve the most they can, progress as far as they can and learn as much as they can.
It is fantastic to work with such an inspiring group of children, committed staff and supportive parents. To see what our pupils achieve everyday and to watch them grow in confidence, character, knowledge and skills is a real privilege and I am immensely proud of each and every pupil at our school.

Palatine Primary School is a community special school in West Sussex which caters for pupils with moderate, severe or profound learning needs many of whom have associated sensory, motor and communication difficulties including Autistic Spectrum Conditions. We have 158 pupils on role aged 4-11 who are taught in groups most appropriate to their individual learning and social needs.
Our Student Council represents each class in school. With the support of the head boy and head girl they make decisions about resources and facilities, as well as supporting pupils in making choices about learning. In previous years they ran a logo competition, created a pirate themed reading area, helped pick new playground equipment and established guidelines for the playground.
4 schools when Herons Dale School joined the Federation. Thrive Federation of Special Schools and they have one governing body, chaired by Geoff Palmer. Cornfield School provides education for 9-16 year olds with SEMH as a primary need and is led by Mrs M Davis as Headteacher. Herons Dale School provides education for 4-11 year olds in a generic primary special school environment and is led by Isabel Robson as Headteacher.
The Governing Body of Palatine Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our children. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Safeguarding is a high priority in our community because of the vulnerability of the children that we teach. We believe every pupil, member of staff and visitor deserves to be safe and to feel safe within our school.
We have been thinking about what a curriculum might look like for children in this next phase of school and have used some guidance from a researcher of education for children with complex learning needs and difficulties to help us with this.
We will be implementing for this period and into next term a "recovery curriculum" which acknowledges that there have been big losses to children as they have stayed at home and that these losses can contribute to pupil's mental health with anxiety, trauma and bereavement playing a large role.Children will perhaps have experienced these aspects all at once and in a sudden and unplanned fashion which can leave children feeling vulnerable.
