Riverside Community Primary School
Our History curriculum aims to support pupils to develop and use their skills in enquiry, analysis and evaluation. We want our pupils to use their skills to delve into the past and develop their knowledge. Events beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally [for example, the Great Fire of London].

The lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements. Some should be used to compare aspects of life in different periods [for example, George Stevenson, Florence Nightingale, Thomas Eddison, Alexander Graham Bell, Samuel Pepys and Grace Darling].
Services
At Riverside our pupils follow the statutory requirements as set out in the National Curriculum, Early Year Curriculum and the locally agreed syllabus for Religious Education. The National Curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens.
At Riverside, we aim to motivate and inspire ALL of our pupils to be the best they can be. We seek to foster ambition and equip children with resilience, independence and the ability to think deeply and critically. We recognise that our pupils learn best when they are engaged in purposeful and contextual activities.
At Riverside we want to show learning skills in all we do. To help us we have our 5 Bees who buzz around the school and remind us of key things we need to do. If we demonstrate one of our learning bees we can get stickers, pencils, certificates and more! If our class all show a bee we can win one of them to help us in class.
Our art curriculum is designed to engage, inspire and challenge children. Our art curriculum is primarily taught through themes as we want children to understand the important role that art plays in the world. Children will develop artistic skills as well as looking at aspects such as evaluating and appreciating work.
Within KS2 (Years 2 to 6) our pupils use computers to help research and present their work. They have a range of programs available, (Microsoft Office, Page Plus, Movie Maker, ) that allow them to publish their work either electronically or as a professional looking document / publication. In addition they are able to manipulate, create and animate artwork and pictures within the Sans Serif Drawplus and Photoplus programs.
