For over forty years we have been looking after the eyesight of the people of Bristol. We have seen many advances in that time and some aspects of our work have changed beyond recognition. What we hope has not changed is the welcome that we give to all our patients and our aim to always provide the highest standard of service.

It's been forty years since Newsom & Davies Opticians began serving the people of Bristol. We've experienced some major changes since Nina Newsom and John Barrand opened a new opticians in Henleaze in 1977. Ruth Davies joined us in 1986, establishing the partnership that saw us rebranding as Newsom & Davies Opticians in the 1990s.

640 million people worldwide can't see properly to learn and earn simply because they need glasses. Vision Aid Overseas exists so that children in Africa who can't see can learn and get an education, and adults who can't see can earn to support their families and contribute to their communities. Ruth Davies first went on a Vision Aid Overseas project to Uganda in 1998.

Our qualified and experienced optometrists are dedicated to providing the very best standards of professional care. We have invested in the latest digital retinal scanning technology, Optos Daytona and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to give you the most advanced eye examination available. We are accredited to the Bristol OHT Glaucoma Monitoring scheme and the Bristol Cataract Follow-up service.

We are committed to the highest standards of eye care and as such we invest in the latest standards of technology so that we can offer you the most advanced eye examination available. This remarkable instrument gives an ultra wide digital image of the whole retina. The Optos Daytona is capable of capturing more than 80% of your retina at the back of your eye in one image whereas conventional methods only capture less than half.
