Victoria Primary has served the village of Newhaven since 1844. It is the oldest working school in Edinburgh. It plays an important part in the life of the community and we are proud of our history and heritage. We have log books and registers in the school dating back to the 1870s and a display of old school artefacts. The Wee Museum houses exhibits on Newhaven and the local area.
Services
Volunteers are valued members of the school community. They are able to provide extra support in the busy, modern classroom. Undertaking tasks such as playing maths or language games, reading stories, changing library books or working with a child one-to-one can be a rewarding experience for all. If you have a particular skill, which you would like to share with the children, you would be most welcome to do so.
Our school follows a Curriculum for Excellence, offering a broad general education, including well-planned experiences and outcomes across the curriculum. Our main aim is to encourage our pupils to become; successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. The starting point for learning is a positive ethos and climate of respect and trust based upon shared values across the school community.
Here at Victoria Primary we think it's important that we get the views and ideas of all the people who make up our school community. To help us do this, we have different committees for pupils and parents. From fundraising to keeping healthy, there is always a way you can help support the decision making of our school.
