Robert Blair School and Children's Centre is nestled in the heart of Islington in the vibrant area of the Caledonian Road between Kings Cross and Angel. We have high expectations of the whole school community in terms of progress and achievement, behaviour and engagement in order to make our children ready for the next stage of their education, and to prepare them to contribute to British society.
The staff and governing body model these high expectations in their daily interactions and behaviours around the school. We work hard to remove barriers to learning. Teaching and learning is a process of co-operative team work including pupils, teachers, support staff, parents, governors and others in our wider community.

What do governors do? School governors provide strategic leadership and accountability in schools. Their role is strategic, not operational. They work with the school to monitor and guide its efforts to raise the achievement of our pupils. Governors appoint the head teacher and deputy headteacher. It is governors who hold the main responsibility for finance in schools, and they work with the school to ensure that the needs of all people are met.
Trips are strongly encouraged. It is expected that every class has a school trip once per half term; many have much more than that. We are very well placed to access all the potential that London can offer with regard to museums, galleries and exhibitions. The school also employs specialist sports coaches and an environmental officer.
Mathematics teaching at Robert Blair aims to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. We strongly believe and subscribe to the concrete-pictorial-abstract (CPA) approach in Mathematics teaching. Children have access to a wide range of practical resources that support them to make the link between concrete, pictorial and abstract aspects of maths.
The Governing Body and teaching staff will do their best to ensure that the necessary provision is made for any pupil who has special educational needs and/or disabilities. Robert Blair Primary School is committed to meeting the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).We will do our best to make sure that a pupil with SEND gets the support and provision they need.
The Pupil Premium Statement 2019-20 shows the school's strategy in its use of the money that it gets through the Pupil Premium in 2018-2019 to have the most impact in raising attainment amongst Pupil Premium children. It also details how Pupil Premium money was spent in 2017-2018 and evaluates its impact.
