Blackwater Vets is an independent veterinary practice located on the sailing island of West Mersea. A cat friendly clinic, a dog friendly registered practice and accredited with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), our aim is to meet the holistic needs of your pet at every moment of their stay.
Your pet is part of your family and that is why we recommend they visit us for a check up every years to ensure they are fit and healthy at all times. Owning a pet is an exciting experience especially if it is a new pet. Just like us, they need lots of care and attention while they're young to ensure they're healthy and happy.
I would recommend Blackwater Veterinary Surgery with no reservations as I've found them to be devoted to helping all their animal customers, while understanding the worries of the animal owners. All the staff are very kind and friendly towards both the animals and their humans, while still being extremely professional in their treatment of animals.
The Cat Friendly Clinic programme arms veterinary clinics with the knowlege and set up to prioritise the wellbeing of cats within a veterinary setting. If you don't plan to breed from your pet, neutering is the most responsible action to take. At Blackwater Vets all specially booked pre-neutering consultations with the vet are free. Neutering is often termed castration or spey in the male and female animal and brings many behavioural and health benefits as well as preventing your female animal becoming pregnant.

Well what can I say. I left this practise in 2018 as I moved. I then called today as my daughters cat was very poorly and she lives nearby. The receptionist who was rude, unprofessional and clearly thinks she is above others told me that once you leave their surgery you can’t come back!! This is disgusting. Clearly do not care about animals. I’ve heard many people voice about their own bad experiences here but always go on what I experience personally . Today just proved so many people out there are right . This surgery is a disgrace. If you care about your animals then don’t take them here

I used this practice recently for our elderly dog and they always go above and beyond to help. The staff are kind, knowledgeable and professional and clearly have a love for the animals they treat.
