At Mackie & Brechin we do things differently. As one of the few remaining truly independent veterinary practices serving the Edinburgh area and Central Scotland we pride ourselves in offering a personal and high quality service tailored to the needs of our clients.
Amongst other things, and increasingly rarely in modern veterinary practice, we offer an out of hours emergency service where our clients can see their own vets in their own local practice when they need them most.We really care about the service that we offer and what our clients think about us.

We provide a 24 hour emergency service 365 days a year for our registered clients. Unlike many other practices, we do not delegate our out-of-hours work to an external source. This means you will always be seen by one of our own veterinary surgeons, at our own premises, with full access to your pet's medical history.
The aim of the plan is to provide your pet with the best possible preventative healthcare, whilst allowing you to spread the cost with affordable monthly payments throughout the year. Vaccination is extremely important to protect your pet from infectious diseases and maintain good health; therefore the plan includes annual boosters (including kennel cough for dogs and feline leukaemia virus for cats).
Vaccination protects your dog by conferring protective immunity against four major life threatening infectious diseases - Distemper (D), Infectious Canine Hepatitis (H) and Parvovirus (P) (viral diseases which can be contracted from contact with other dogs including their faeces) and Leptospirosis (L) (a bacterial disease which can be contracted from infected urine or dirty water, especially flood water or where rats are present).
We work very hard to provide a high quality service and welcome any feedback. Two of our dogs died under suspicious circumstances, partly due to incompetent new staff and partly genuine medical errors, I believe we're covered up by other vets within the practice. A simple flesh wound requiring three stitches, within a week became bone cancer!
I would highly recommend not leaving your dog overnight as in our experience veterany care rarily exceeds 9pm and the shop doesn't open for business until the nurse comes in at 8 am in the morning and yet the practice is happy to promote itself as a caring, supporting friendly organisation caring for its customers. We have used Mickie and Brechin for over 15 years now and just cannot say anything Negative about any of the Staff that work there, a special thanks to Simon and Jeff for all the Care they gave to our 2 Beloved Boys Jamie and Alfie before they gained their Wings and many Thanks to Simon for the Care he is giving Pip who is now doing very well, and last but not least the Nurses and all the Girls at Reception who are all so Caring and Understanding. Very good and professional service. We hadn't registered our hamster, as we had only had her 2 months, with the practise but they registered her quickly when we sought treatment. Unfortunately our hamster wasn't well and was put to sleep but the practise were very sensitive and professional. Was really surprised and touched to receive a sympathy card about our lovely wee hamster from the practise. We plan on getting another hamster soon and will be registering with Mackie and Brechin for definite. Thank you.

Wonderful, personable vets. Really good about helping me through understanding what they diagnosed my cat with and walked me through all the treatment options. They're very affordable as well, and worth travelling to from Edinburgh centre for their friendliness, helpfulness, and true concern about my pet.
