Welcome to the website of Reeth and Gunnerside Primary Schools. Together we educate the children of Swaledale from the age of 3 to 11 years. Located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, we have a fantastic learning environment on our doorstep that provides superb opportunities for first hand learning, complimented by great facilities within the schools.

We are very much at the heart of the community, which enriches our curriculum, supports learning and adds relevance to what we do. I can't think of a better place to go to school! It is our aim to ensure that all pupils achieve their full potential academically, while also developing holistically to become well rounded individuals ready for the next step of education, and for life.
Services
The Friends' Endowed School in Reeth was founded in 1778 by brothers George and John Raw to provide education for the children of Quaker Friends. The present school, with house attached, was built in 1862. By 1890, 30 boys and 20 girls were receiving free education. It became a county school in 1939 and a community school in 1999.
We evaluate our class structure each year to ensure that we offer the most effective provision for all learners. Nursery, Reception and KS1 pupils are taught at Reeth each day, while KS2 pupils are taught at Gunnerside. A sense of cohesion is achieved on a weekly basis when we work at one site for a day.
Our school uniform can be purchased from our online supplier at www.school-shop.co.uk. There is no minimum order, however orders below 40 will incur a 3.95 delivery charge. The school does not hold any uniform stocks, but the school office staff will happily help you with any queries you may have about requirements or assist you with internet access.
Further information about our school meals, including menus for the current term (our schools use the single choice menu), and the food policy that our caterers work to, can be found on North Yorkshire County Council's website: North Yorkshire County Council - School Catering. We are pleased to reprint here a statement from North Yorkshire County Caterers, the organisation responsible for our food procurement.
Families are asked to contact school as soon as possible and by 09:00 on the first day of any absence due to illness. This information enables the classteacher to record the absence correctly in the school register. Telephone calls are taken from 08:30 daily and before this time an answer machine is available.
