The White Hart
The White Hart is a fine old village inn full of character and charm where you'll be assured of a friendly welcome, whether you join us for a quick drink, one of our delicious home-cooked meals or an overnight stay in our superb guest rooms. Located in the picturesque South Downs village of South Harting, West Sussex, we're near Petersfield and just a few minutes from the A3, within easy reach of Chichester and Portsmouth.

Our pub is an ideal watering hole for anyone walking the South Downs Way. Had lunch with friends this week and could not have been better: interesting menu, beautifully prepared and presented food, good wine list, great ambience, service as attentive as can be. A wonderful day out! Brilliant atmosphere, fantastic food and open fires all sewn up with great service.
Services
The White Hart offers an exciting menu of delicious, home-cooked meals featuring regular favourites as well as an ever-changing variety of specials. We have a policy of sourcing our produce, wherever possible, from local family food suppliers to ensure we have the best quality, tastiest and freshest ingredients in everything we serve.
Please see samples of our current menus where every dish served features the very best that nature can offer. We pride ourselves in championing fresh produce from our local and great British suppliers to make sure you enjoy every taste. Please let us know if you have any allergies by either informing us when ordering or by calling /emailing in advance.
Our gorgeous en-suite rooms are situated either in the main house or the barn at the rear of the building. Stayed at the White Hart for one night while in the area on business and wow what a fabulous place. The room was spacious and modern but had a rustic charm. Absolutely spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable well appointed rooms with lovely toiletries and even a complimentary Wispa bar!
White Hart is located in the picturesque South Downs village of South Harting, West Sussex, making us an ideal stopover for anyone walking the South Downs Way. We are also near Petersfield and within easy reach of Chichester and Portsmouth. Just down the road from us, set high on the rolling South Downs, is Uppark, a fine late 17th century National Trust house.
Just a 21-minute drive south of us is Chichester Cathedral, the seat of the Anglican Bishop of Chichester. Although founded as a cathedral in 1075, the building's architecture spans the centuries, with original Norman features as well as Gothic features and a magnificent Victorian spire. A free-standing medieval bell tower and double aisles are unique architectural features among England's medieval cathedrals.

Cosy stay in a room to the rear of the pub with tasteful interiors. Superb hot shower, comfy bed and nice touches such as a pouch of fresh ground coffee on the room-tray. The landlord pre-booked us a table in the restaurant to ensure we could eat on a busy Saturday evening. Delicious food. Every bit worth the short detour off the South Downs Way. Thank you!!

Great place to stay with our poochon. Food was great, but continental breakfast was a little limited. Good beer, old world charm and open fire.

This is simply the best pub I've ever had the pleasure to visit. We keep coming back - and it keeps getting better. The food is wonderful, the surroundings are exquisite. And Sophie, Bob and the team are SO welcoming. We had the BEST New Year's Eve here. Thank you guys - you rock! Best pub in England!

We stayed here last night as we were working nearby. Lovely little room which was clean and cosy. The staff are super friendly and very helpful.
The food was incredible! We had 3 courses including a roast and a very generous serving of sticky toffee pudding which was lush. By far the best pub roast I’ve ever had! Would highly recommend staying at this pub or definitely trying their food! Very impressed and will be staying there again if I’m down! Thank you!

Delicious fresh, seasonal dishes. Really friendly staff. They made every single member of the family welcome. From the dog , which found loads of lovely people to meet, to our eight year old who got entertained by riddles to the parents who enjoyed the great food and wine.

Amazing pub! 45 of us were on a walk and had pre-ordered food, we were running late but the staff accommodated us and delivered amazing dishes. Probably the best pub roast I’ve had! Beautiful setting and the outdoor event tipi is fab... going to let me friends know as it looks like a perfect South Downs wedding venue. Staff are all lovely and we had an amazing lunch.

We stayed two nights at The White Hart for a wedding nearby, we had 3 rooms between our family group and they were all perfect. The White Hart is a quintessential English Country Inn. Our rooms were all… different but beautifully characterful, and all had a cafetier with real coffee. Two of our rooms were in the courtyard, so felt private. Our room was more of a suite and had every comfort you could wish for, another room had high ceilings and the third was an upstairs room with a cosy cottagey feel. We ate once in the restaurant and the food was great as was the breakfast. Service brilliant
