Set in the picturesque village of Heptonstall, high above Hebden Bridge and with magnificent views of the Calder Valley, is our small, happy and vibrant school. In our school we aim to provide a happy, secure and caring environment in which children are encouraged to do their best at all times - in learning and in play.
We aim for high standards in teaching and learning, and in behaviour. We endeavour to educate the 'whole child', fostering social and personal as well as academic excellence. We want our children to develop an understanding of our society, based on tolerance and respect for others.

Services
As well as a class teacher, all classes have a teaching assistant (or Nursery Nurse in the case of Class One) with them for the majority of the school day. Our curriculum is organised into a two year rolling programme so all children cover the full curriculum during their time in each class. For more detailed information please go to the Curriculum section of this website.
Places at Heptonstall School are allocated in accordance with the Local Authority's Admissions Policy. Children are admitted to our school from the term following their third birthday. Applications for a Reception place must be made to Calderdale, usually by mid-January for a place in September. All applications must now be made online by the due date.
Heptonstall School operates a Foundation Unit shared by nursery and reception children. The Unit is staffed by a full-time teacher and a nursery nurse. Other teaching assistants from the school work in the Unit on a part-time basis. Nursery sessions run for 3 hours, 9.00am to 12.00pm each morning and 12.30pm to 3.30pm each afternoon.
At Heptonstall J, I and N school, our children are individuals and our rich and motivational curriculum starts with them. We intend to prepare them for life by developing within them the values of curiosity, bravery, determination, responsibility, flexibility of thought and respect for the opinions and beliefs of others.
Our Governing Body consists of 12 members whose purpose is to help provide the best possible education for pupils at our school. Their main function is to raise standards, monitoring progress against the targets they set. The Governing Body meets regularly and works with the Headteacher and the staff to decide the school's aims and policies and to oversee the efficient running of the school.
