One of my poetry workshops in a primary school in Wigan. Originally broadcast on BBC1's Match of the Day in conjunction with my work as Poet in Residence at Wigan Athletic FC. Writing and performing high quality poetry is a real and valuable skill well within reach of all children in our primary schools.

I am in continual demand for performances and workshops in libraries all over the UK. Just very recently I have appeared in libraries in York, Stockport, Rochdale, Blackburn, Warrington, Bolton, Bury, Lancashire, Salford, Newcastle and Blackpool.

Born way back in 1970 in Rochdale near Manchester I first started my professional life on the fruit and veg stall at Tesco's! After various jobs including frozen food delivery driver, flower salesman and glass collector I eventually qualified as a primary school teacher in 1992.

Eight long, exhausting but wonderful years later I decided to quit the classroom and have a go at writing children's poetry and suddenly I realised that life would never be the same again!I have work published by Macmillan, Scholastic, AC Black, Oxford University Press and Hands Up Books to name just a few.
Every year I get invited to visit over 120 primary schools across the UK and Europe to perform my work and lead exciting poetry workshops for children from Reception up to Year 6. Many of these schools invite me back year after year to inspire their children to improve their reading, writing and performance skills- so, what exactly can I offer to your school?
Watch me deliver a poetry workshop to the wonderful children and teachers at GEMS Metropole International School Dubai!. As well as visiting in person I am now extremely busy delivering my poetry workshops and performances to schools all over the world ONLINE.

Very recently I have worked with schools in the UK, Dubai, Abu Dhabi UAE and Hangzhou, China to guide children through the fun and exciting process of writing, editing and performing their own unique poem.To date I have used Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom and I've found that this technology is a great way of organising secure, professional and FUN sessions with schools.
Poetry is now an important and central pillar of the new literacy curriculum in England and Wales. It can be used as a powerful tool to help children to significantly improve their reading, writing and oracy skills with a new emphasis on children learning and PERFORMING either poetry written by themselves or that of professional children's writers.
Independent language professional, trainer and specialist in technology in language teaching. Fed up with your teaching job? Do you ever wish that you could do something else, something more fulfilling and worthwhile - something for yourself? I started my own workshopping business in schools 20 years ago using my passion for writing and performing and I'm constantly amazed at the fantastic career I've been lucky enough to build.
