I am delighted to welcome you to our school website, where you will get a flavour of all that goes on in our school. West Winds is a Nurturing school; our priority is for every child to achieve the best they can be in a happy and caring environment.

West Winds Primary is a community school; we work closely with community groups in offering real-world learning, connecting children, families and community members through collaborative and creative activities. Please get in touch if you have any queries or if you'd like to arrange a visit to our school.
A nurture group is a small class of eight to ten children and acts as a kind of bridge between home and school for those children who are having a hard time in their mainstream class. All sorts of children join nurture groups, for all sorts of reasons. The point of nurture is to encourage the child to want to go to school, to take pride in their learning and to learn and grow at a pace that is right for them.
Our aim is to provide a rich and well balanced curriculum, which develops the whole child. Staff ensure that each year group follow a programme which has continuity and progression in line with the NI Curriculum. Our dedicated teachers employ a range of different teaching approaches (whole class, group and individual), depending on the needs of the children and the subject being covered.
Roots of Empathy is a programme that has shown significant effect in reducing levels of aggression among schoolchildren by raising social and emotional awareness. At the heart of the programme are a baby and parent who visit the classroom every three weeks over the school year. The children observe the baby's development and learn to label the baby's feelings.
West Winds prides itself on being a warm, nurturing school where children are supported and encouraged to be the best that they can be. Ultimately, it's our people that make us what we are. Feel free to watch our Why West Winds video below, to find out what our staff, pupils and parents think of West Winds PS.
