Services
First opened as "Ullswater View Boarding House" in 1904, The Old Water View Hotel has been welcoming walkers, travellers and holiday makers for over one hundred years. Alfred Wainwright stayed here on a number of occasions whilst he was creating the world famous "Coast to Coast" walk, the route of which passes within 100 metres of our door.
All of our guest bedrooms at The Old Water View Hotel are tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard. They offer you comfortable, central heated accommodation, with all modern conveniences, including ensuite facilities, WiFi, TV & Video, CD player, Hairdryer, Iron & Ironing board and tea/coffee making facilities.
Our hotel bar is themed on Alfred Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk. Wainwright was a regular guest at The Old Water View Hotel and we hope he would have appreciated our new facilities! We offer Tirril beers on draft, Wainwright Ale by the bottle, and a fully stocked bar with over 100 alcohol choices.
Tirril Brewery has dabbled for some years making single malts based on our beer recipes, which has been fun, but the single malt whisky market we have found is elitist and somewhat snobby. The proliferation of gins has proved to be much more inclusive and the variety of styles and flavours a lot more exciting than the narrow parameters of single malt whiskies.
Situated in the delightful village of Patterdale, and surrounded by some of Lakeland's most magnificent scenery, The Old Water View Hotel has been welcoming visitors for over 100 years. Patterdale is a small village, nestling at the southern end of Lake Ullswater, and surrounded by some of Lakeland's finest scenery.

It felt like a miracle coming across this place as we walked around Patterdale. The White Lion pub down from here didn’t accept card payments but the Old Water View saved the day!
We enjoyed two lovely, refreshingly cold pints 🍻 in the beautiful garden.
They also serve jacket potatoes and baguettes.
Lager was 10/10 and dog received a treat too ⭐️

After walking from Sykeside Camp site we felt immediately welcomed by the owners of the Old Water View. We enjoyed a jacket potato and a baguette. Simple food but hit the spot nonetheless. The kids enjoyed taking a dip in the water at the foot of the garden. Lovely views and clean B&B also. We didn’t make use of this obviously but looked really nice when we ventured in to use the loo.

I stayed a few nights at Old Water View in the Shepherds Hut in October 2020, and it was the perfect base for my Lakes hiking. (In fact, negotiating a longer stay as it was so much better than the other accomodation I had arranged!) It was comfortable and warm, and I particularly appreciated the kit drying space in the main house. On top of that, the owners were absolutely lovely and outstandingly helpful; it was a total pleasure to meet them and stay there. Breakfast was also excellent, with delicious local produce. The cherry on the cake was the wildlife - kingfisher, dippers and red squirrels
