Our Family Hotel is situated in the centre of the small village of Shap. Directly on the Wainwright coast to coast, surrounded by rich, local history and tourism. Boasting 7 spacious bedrooms we are ideally located either side of the Lake District Fells and Pennines, we are the ideal base for adventurers and walkers.

Our popular home-cooked menu is continuously updated with a range of fresh and locally sourced ingredients to offer a wide range of choice for all tastes and dietary requirements. We have daily specials and lunch menu (only available at weekend) and our traditional Sunday Lunches are proving very popular, so we suggest booking!
Services
The Kings Arms Hotel was one of the Coaching Inns, and one of the tallest buildings in Shap. It is believed to date from the 18th century. Before the coming of the railway these inns (the Greyhound, and Queens Head were others) would have been hives of activity, serving the needs of travellers in the great road from England to Scotland.
Our bar is a place for people from all walks of life to relax and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. We're very popular at weekends and have coverage of both Sky Sports and BT sports on our 60 TV screen. There are often special events such as live music, karaoke, pool and darts nights that you can participate in.
For the energetic visitor, there are numerous good walks literally from the door, with marvellous views across the Fells of the Central Lakes. Ullswater, Windermere and Derwent Water are all within easy driving distance and where you will find boat trips, boat hire and fishing, together with other activities.

Lovely twin room, really friendly staff. Great evening meal with vegan options. Disappointed that no dairy free options for coffees /breakfast. Had requested months ahead & then contacted few days before to ask for this & told all OK but found no non dairy avail, no veggie sausages etc. Also had asked for a pack up breakie for 1st morning as leaving at 530am was told this was fine but on checking in realised this hadn't been sorted so reckon there's a real communication problem as all requirements were agreed to but not filtered through. Nice place tho'

Staff were great, lovely large rooms, didn't eat here as the pub didn't serve food the night we stayed and left before breakfast.
Nice stop during our coast to coast walk.

Very limited menu,5 items,3 of which were sandwiches. Bread wasn't very nice but chips were good. Beer was flat and white wine was warm. Sorry to say won't return. Bar maid was very pleasant and helpful though.

Great to have a drink mid afternoon in the beer garden. Decent prices for drinks, space for car out front when quiet and lots of seats in garden. Friendly staff. Food only served after 5pm weekdays.

A quiet friendly local pub. Owners are very amiable and happy to help. A lovely quiet front yard to sit and watch the traffic go by. Not an adventures menu, but good substantial food at a reasonable price. Enjoyed their company.

Late booking, after a long exhausting day. Staff were amazing, looked after us both evening and morning. Ice for my poor feet offered and accepted gratefully, help with all our needs and nothing was too much trouble. Both staff members went above and beyond and we couldn’t have been happier.
