Services
We nurture a love of learning, open minds, inspire tolerance and awaken a sense of the spiritual. The happy and secure environment of our school allows the children to reach their fullest potential. Our model for learning begins with the child and enquiry, with emphasis on the process and development of skills and concepts.
Cockfield Primary School was founded in 1856 as a National School to meet the educational needs of the children of Cockfield. The several Victorian additions to the building gave the children facility for schooling to 14 years of age.

As rationalisation and legislation has progressed, the school now serves the needs of the 4-10 year age group from the further villages of Thorpe Morieux, Bradfield Combust, Bradfield St Clare and Bradfield St George.Due to the School Organisation Review (SOR), pupils will now remain at Cockfield Primary School for their entire Primary Education and will leave after Year 6 to go to Thurston Community College.
We deliver a creative curriculum through topics that engage the children. Within the curriculum, we aim to ensure that fundamental British values of democracy, the rules of law, individual liberty and mutual respect are taught and discussed and we highlight the importance of respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
Every school has a Governing Body, made up of a team of local volunteers, both from within the school community and the outside community. The Governors represent the parents and public in important matters involving the school and the Local Authority.

The Governors, in co-operation with the Headteacher, are concerned with the educational facilities made available by Suffolk County Council, understanding the quality of teaching and learning within the school, the maintenance of school buildings, the appointment of staff, and the general administration of the school curriculum. The day to day details of teaching and school business are the responsibility of the Headteacher and the staff.
Cockfield is situated in West Suffolk, about 6 miles south of the market town of Bury St Edmunds, and close to historic Lavenham. It is a large and scattered village consisting of a series of hamlets grouped round its many greens, and the church. About 750 people live in the community. Cockfield is an active village with many flourishing organisations, clubs and societies including the Parish Council and Community Council.
