The Royal
Surrounded by cliffs and windswept headlands forming an especially beautiful part of the Coastal footpath and English Channel, Ventnor possesses an unrivalled and enduring beauty. The Royal Hotel - named "Ultimate Hotel Experience" by Red Funnel - is nestled into exotic south facing gardens overlooking Ventnor's stunning coastline.

For the best al fresco views, head for the clifftop Riviera Terrace. The nearby beach, heated outdoor pool and daily high tea make this a great choice for families. Our 51 bedrooms are each decorated with flair in fine fabrics and furnishings to guarantee our guests have the most comfortable experience possible.
Services
Founded in 1832, The Royal is one of the oldest hotels on the Isle of Wight, and still one of its finest. Originally built as a coaching inn called Fishers Hotel, it became known as The Royal Hotel after enjoying Queen Victoria's patronage. Steeped in history yet offering every modern comfort, The Royal Hotel has been an irresistible destination for the discerning traveller for the last 180 years.
From The Royal Hotel, it is just a few minutes walk down to Ventnor seafront, where you can enjoy the sand and shingle beach, or sample refreshments at the cafes and ice cream parlours along the Esplanade. To the west lies the picturesque beach of Steephill Cove, and above it sprawls the beautiful Botanic Gardens.
The Isle of Wight is now in an elite group of regions, being only the 6th region in the UK to be awarded the UNESCO accolade. The Island has a fantastic variety of beaches, rivers and estuaries making it the perfect destination for water sports enthusiasts and for those wanting to experience something unique and memorable.
Our planet is precious and something everyone should take responsibility for protecting. Unfortunately, Global Warming is a monumental problem destroying so much of our environment which is something we take very seriously here at The Royal. The Royal has several environmentally-friendly initiatives that minimise our carbon footprint, and support the Island's farmers, wildlife, and landscape.
Built in 1832, The Royal is the Island's premier four-star hotel and shares the rare privilege of being one of only 30 establishments to be listed in every Michelin Guide since it was first published in 1911. The Royal was also the first hotel on the Island to achieve Four Stars, AA rating and has held 2 AA Rosettes for excellent food for over 25 consecutive years.

Ate a delightful three course lunch here as a group of four. The food was absolutely amazing!!!! Can't fault it. I had lamb with spicy chickpeas and burnt aubergine. I was a bit dubious about the aubergine which tasted very burnt on its own, but when eaten with the chickpeas, wow it was sensational! The smokey burnt taste with the sweet/spicy chickpeas was so delicious. Overall service was excellent, lovely atmosphere and the food that was a pleasure to eat. If you like good food, I highly recommend eating here.

Traditional Victorian hotel with very polite and efficient staff. Good food and facilities. Rooms are traditional, very clean and comfortable. Bathrooms are a bit dated but still serviceable. Enjoyed my stay.

Went for afternoon tea, the staff were so helpful and attentive. The atmosphere was very relaxing, had a drink in the bar before having the cream tea, which we had inside as of the rain, it would be nice to have in the garden in better weather. There was no feeling of being rushed everything went at our pace. The range of items we got was good, especially to cover some allergens.

Non resident review.
We only stopped for a drink at The Royal as we were not staying, although we have bookmarked the place to revisit next time we are on the Island!
Excellent service and very pretty outdoor space with lovely cocktails. The bartender helped me arrange a surprise glass of champagne for my husband and I who were celebrating our honeymoon.

The Royal is a stunning hotel surrounded by lush gardens and overlooking Ventnor Beach on the Isle of Wight. Staff are simply 5star, making the experience of the visit truly memorable. We just stopped in for a chat during a cliff side walk and stayed for a pot of tea, beautifully presented by their outstanding staff member Mervin - or was it Mervyn. You sir, are the smart, politest and most gracious person we have met in many a year, and we've been to quite a few 5☆ hotels......
Thank You, my wife and l are now really excited to be eating at your beautiful establishment tomorrow evening. And

Surprised to see that this spot has only one review, seeing as how it was teeming with half term visitors and groups of women having (taking?) tea during my trip here now nearly a month ago. I came here with my Aunt and her friend while taking in the sights around Ventnor. The hotel is beautiful with its stately facade and gardens featuring palms reminiscent of Devon or the South of France. As the weather was unseasonably warm, we ended up sitting outside, with a nice view of the outdoor pool (closed for the season) before going into the hotel for tea. As far as the food/drink on offer, there was

We had a three day stay at The Royal Hotel in Ventnor, which was pleasant with no real nasty surprises for us, but not worth a return visit. I would give it a 2 star but my partner said that was a bit mean, so it gets 3.

Room: clean and comfortable, had all the extras you need, and as the hotel is placed well away from any busy roads, it was quiet... The bathroom is showing signs of wear and tear, bits wobble, black mould around the bath, shower unit could do with a look at.

Breakfast: I have stayed at a range of hotels and b&b's, but I can't remember that I have to sit where
