At West Lane, our History Leader, Miss McRoberts, ensures that the past comes alive to help our pupils learn about local, national and global history and civilisations, developing and consolidating their understanding of the past and how it has shaped the world in which we currently live.
West Lane's history curriculum ignites curiosity and inspires a love of learning for pupils throughout the school aiming to bring the past to life through engaging, creative lessons that help children understand key historical issues, changes, concepts and legacies in great depth.

Services
Winlaton West Lane Junior and Infant Schools were built in 1877, but was renamed Winlaton West Lane Community Primary School in 1984 following the amalgamation of the two schools. Extensive refurbishment of the buildings took place in 1986 and continuous improvements have been subsequently made to ensure that our school is fully equipped for the educational opportunities of the 21stCentury.
At Winlaton West Lane Community Primary School, through an ethos of opportunity and respect, we aspire to create an inclusive, safe, vibrant, happy school where everyone - children, staff, governors, parents and carers - is encouraged to. Through our challenging, creative and diverse curriculum, we strive to create confident and inquisitive learners who will be a brilliant workforce of the future.
At Winlaton West Lane Primary School we promote 'British Values' through our spiritual, moral, social and cultural education which permeates through the school's curriculum and supports the development of the 'whole child'. We recognise that such development is most successful when those values and attitudes are promoted by all the staff who provide a model of behaviour for our pupils.
Admission to the school (but not the Nursery - see below for that) is handled by Gateshead Council. We take children from the start of the term following their 3rd birthday. We also offer places under the 30 Hour scheme for qualifying parents. Popular patterns fill up quickly, so we can't guarantee that you'll get the attendance pattern that you want, but we do our very best to accommodate everyone!
The senior team and governing body have worked successfully to eliminate underperformance; leaders are relentless in their pursuit of excellence. A large majority of parents responding to Ofsted's online questionnaire say the school is well led and managed, and nearly all parents would recommend the school to another parent.
