Welcome to Class 2, we are pleased to welcome you and your child to our class. We hope it will be the start of a happy partnership. This year your child will begin to learn by doing things for themselves, by exploring and investigating, watching and listening, talking and discussing, creating and communicating - in other words, playing.
Play is children's work and playing hard is very tiring! Play can also be very messy as your child will be learning both inside and also in the outdoors so you can expect some mucky clothes at the end of the day!

I hope that by viewing this site you will find the information you require about our Nursery School and Childcare Centre. I am very proud of the high quality Early Years education with care we offer for children from the age of 2 years to 5 years of age. My whole staff team endeavour to create a nurturing, stimulating and exciting learning environment.
At Ellergreen Nursery School and Childcare Centre we want to inspire all our children to achieve to their full potential and develop a passion for life-long learning. To foster and support children from the age of 2-4 years of age in all aspects of their development through providing a stimulating learning environment with opportunities for children to become confident and independent learners.
We know that parents/carers are the most important people in their child's life. Therefore, we aim to form a strong link between School/Childcare Centre and home by involving parents/carers as much as possible. From the moment children start in our setting, staff work very closely with parents/carers to ensure that all the childrens' needs are being met.
National data and research tells that children eligible for free school meals tend to do less well, for example in 2014 45% of children eligible for free school meals achieved the expected level at the end of the early years foundation stage compared with 64% of other children. The Early Years Pupil Premium will provide us with extra funding to close this gap.
Staff encourage children to know their views count, value each other's views and values and talk about their feelings, for example when they do or do not need help. Staff support the decisions that children make and provide activities that involve turn-taking, sharing and collaboration. Children are given opportunities to develop enquiring minds.
