Yoga Point is an independent yoga studio in Brixton, set up by Vaccasin and Rebecca Hopwood in 2010. It is light, spacious and fully equipped. We wanted to create somewhere that is unpretentious and non performative. Somewhere people can come together and practice yoga and meditation as part of a friendly, straightforward, supportive community.
The teachers are the most important part of any studio and our aim is to run Yoga Point as a collaboration between our teachers and ourselves. This studio is run on a profit-share basis. We do not generally have introductory offers for classes in the studio as we prioritise our teachers over packing out a class.

Hatha yoga is a very broad term referring to any physical yoga practice. As such all yoga practised at Yoga Point falls within 'hatha yoga'. However, hatha yoga has come to mean classes that are less intense than the generally faster paced vinyasa, flow or power classes. It is worth noting that one hatha class can vary from another.
There are sequences in this class where you will move from one asana (posture) to another with the breath and there will be slower sections of the class where you will hold the asanas (postures) for longer. Depending on who is teaching the class, Slow flow can vary quite a lot so it is worth checking who is teaching the class to get an idea of what it will be like.
Vajrasati Yoga was founded by Jim Tarran. It is a straightforward practice of Modern Postural Yoga i.e. body work. Interwoven into the practice of the asanas is the spirit of the yoga movement as it has come down to us through its various influences such as Tantra, Raja, Advaita Vedanta and Buddhism.
Yin yoga is suitable for all levels of yoga practitioner, it is a slow form where lying and seated poses are held for a longer period of time (using supports) allowing the body to move gently into deeper stretches. We can let go of any striving and connect to our inner experience, creating time for silent reflection.
Yoga nidra is a form of guided meditation, often referred to as yogic sleep. It is usually practised lying down with any bolsters, cushions and blankets needed to ensure you are comfortable. While deeply relaxed the inner world becomes more available, emotions, thoughts and our sense of self, both conscious and unconscious is explored.

The classes I attend on zoom are the best I've experienced. Yoga Point teachers are grounded, compassionate and most importantly they avoid the whole bracket of yoga that can be best described as vain-glorious. I have been practicing yoga for twelve years and I am a contemporary dancer/teacher. I have always been very wary of the spiritual materialism that can sometimes occur in any practice that has evolved from guru-type teaching. I approach the practice of yoga with an open mind and wholeheartedly embrace the physical and energetic. in order for me to hear and acknowledge the spiritual teachings

From my first studio class as a nervous novice I found a welcoming and relaxed culture nurtured by excellent teachers, gently encouraging diverse yogis of all abilities.
I had been increasing my endurance and strength training in preparation for a crossing of the Greenland Icecap and was concerned by the risk of injury. Through Yoga Point I found a balance in my training that served me well.
My weekly practice has since become indispensable, a physical reset and also a time of quiet.

I cannot praise Yoga Point enough for their Covid-19 procedures. They have been consistent since day 1 about implementing them, and I always feel safe and that they care about the health of their students. Plus I'm impressed with the teacher's ability to have online and in-person class at the same time (Nina, Tuesday 6pm), she is a great teacher but also able to multi-task. The class itself is fun and challenging in a playful way. Well done Yoga Point!

As i have been going for many years, i think it's high time to write a review for my beloved Tuesday eve yoga class. I love taking the 6:30 class, which is taught by Donna, who is wonderfully personable, hands-on if required and makes sure that all different level students will advance their abilities.
Highly recommend it!
