Our museum explores the history of Fleetwood - the building of a new seaside town, its unique maritime heritage, and the many stories of Fleetwood people. We bring this rich history to life through family friendly displays featuring real objects from Fleetwood's past and present, all in Fleetwood's oldest building.
Services
Fleetwood Museum is a community museum, run by Fleetwood Museum Trust, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. We receive funding from the people of Fleetwood through Fleetwood Town Council - a third tier local authority. We believe we are the only museum in the country to be funded in this way. The museum exists to collect, preserve, interpret and share the rich history of Fleetwood.
The museum is easily accessible by car, with free parking all along Queen's Terrace and the Promenade. Take A585 to Fleetwood, and follow the brown signs to the museum (FY7 6BT). The museum overlooks the River Wyre. Free on street parking is available outside the museum and the nearest pay and display car park is accessible from Custom House Lane, to the rear of the museum.
Perhaps you work for or are involved with a local group that wants to collaborate with Fleetwood museum on a project? In our 2020 temporary exhibition we are proudly telling the story of Fisherman's Friend - a Fleetwood company known all over the world for making the famous Fisherman's Friend lozenge.
Over the next few years we will be developing plans to redisplay our galleries - some of them have been in place for a long time! Our current displays include family friendly content such as dressing up and toys. We also have several quizzes and trails for children and families to complete around the museum - just ask at the museum reception.
We are proud to receive funding from Fleetwood Town Council that comes from Fleetwood residents. This money ensures we can stay open, keep the lights on and continue to tell Fleetwood's story. To undertake major projects such as redeveloping galleries, creating new community partnerships or learning opportunities, we need more funding and sponsorship.

Absolutely fantastic, i highly recommended visiting the Fleetwood museum. Very knowledgeable and approachable staff who all volunteer and explain in detail about the history of Fleetwood. I sincerely hope the museum can raise funding to expand the museum and restore the fishing ship which is currently undercover outside. I will be visiting again very soon.

This is a most fascinating museum about a very interesting town and district with a very rich and heroic history. The volunteers who run it are passionate about their heritage. The exhibits and displays are superbly put together. I was enthralled and look forward to many return visits. It re-opens at Easter 2022.
