Karl Friedrich Benz was a German engine designer and car engineer, generally regarded as the inventor of the first automobile powered by an internal combustion engine, and together with Bertha Benz, pioneering founder of the automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. Following the invention of the "Penny Farthing" in 1871 the Post Office looked into ways of using cycles to deliver the increasing volume, and hence weight of post.

Exactly as expected a lovely place to spend a couple of hours looking at old cars, bikes, be bicycles to and lots more. Everything on display was in beautiful but condition and so clean. There is a cafe attached but it was so crowded we did not stop. I'm guessing it might be slightly less crowded on a weekday rather than at the weekend.

Great place to visit, lovely cars and bikes kept in fantastic condition. Something for everyone and so interesting. Staff were helpful and friendly, made sure we got the most from our visit. Seeing the Bluebird exhibit was a bonus but the best bit was the coffee shop/restaurant - service, coffee and cakes.

What a great way to spend a few hours.
We thought we'd give it a go after finding a leaflet in our hotel.
Let me start by saying, that this place is absolutely crammed with cars, bikes and motoring related bits and bobs. There's things from the last century or so dotted all around. The wife and I were constantly pointing and drawing each others attention.
Luckily, due to the time you spend in here, there are toilets, on the far side of the Jaguar XK140.
Also there's a great little gift shop with some pleasant staff.

You really can't come to this part of the Lake District and NOT come to see the Donald Campbell Bluebird exhibition, especially when you're in the Lake District for Coniston Powerboat Records Week. There's also a wide selection of historic vehicles of all sorts here. Definitely a visit worth making.

Great afternoon out for all the family to enjoy. Small gift shop to purchase a memento or two. Absolute excellent library museum of classic nostalgic vehicles. Fab descriptions made the experience even for the novice of car lovers enjoyable.
Nice that there was a second museum explaining the Great Bluebird when purchasing the motor museum tickets ππ

Great collection of cars. Went here with the family and I highly suggest the family group ticket as it comes out cheaper than buying individually. Pushchair friendly and a nice little cafe overlooking a stream. Wonderful well kept museum - wonderful staff and great fun for a family trip full of history. Letβs keep places like this alive!
