Services
Kendal Museum is easy to reach, whether you're on foot, cycling, taking the train or driving! By car: The car park is pay and display and is situated adjacent to the Museum. The postcode is LA9 6BT and the car park entrance is marked with brown signs and is directly opposite the David Hayton car sales showroom building.
We strive to make sure the Museum can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages and abilities. We have step-free access to all parts of the Museum and Guide and Assistance Dogs are welcome. The step-free entrance is located to the left of the main entrance - please ring the bell at the door and a member of staff will welcome you.
We've got a variety of spaces to choose from for your special event, and we're busy refurbishing the beautiful trading hall upstairs too, which is set to be a wonderful community asset for Kendal. Hire a room at the Museum - parties, meetings, workshops, lectures - you name it, we'd love to hear from you.
We hold birthday parties for up to 15 children, plus accompanying adults. Parties normally start with a safari picnic in the World Wildlife Gallery and a member of Museum staff is on hand to help out with the party and to deliver activities. The staff member will also conduct a Torch Light Tour of the World Wildlife Gallery where the animals can be discovered in a new light!
For just 12 per person, you and your friends will be given a tour of the Museum by a member of staff, and an informal talk about the history of the Museum and its fascinating collections. Let us know when booking if there is something within our collections which holds special interest for you. We may be able to focus on that specifically.

Great little local museum, with an eclectic mix of exhibits. It has lots of small, presumably donated private collections, everything from, prehistoric artefacts, fossils, geological samples, coin hoards, and a large collection of taxidermy creatures, fish, insects, mammals, birds etc. I think for 12+ upwards age group, and maybe not for some folk, but we found it interesting, and informative.
An enjoyable visit.

This eclectic collection of items from many periods of human history along with lots of natural history exhibits, geological samples and also some nice bits of local history is presented in a bit of a bonkers way.
I particularly liked the stuffed hedgehog being used to prevent people sitting on one exhibit.
The mixed up layout is brilliant for small children with short attention spans as they can flit from itopic to topic.
The litho-phone is great fun too.
I highly recommend it.

We've just held my daughters party here. Absolutely fantastic and will definitely do it again. The torchlight tour is so much fun and very interesting. Margaret is really good at what she does and has such a calm nature the kids took to her very easily. We didn't do the extra activities this time but will next time as I bet it just makes it even better. Thank you so much Margaret, you will certainly see us again.
