In Anglo Saxon times the area named 'Leyland' referred to nothing more than an area of unploughed fields through which Roman roads passed. The town of Leyland as we know it today, has developed largely due to the growth and expansion of the bus and truck manufacturer named after the town. The museum building was formally part of Leyland Motor's and the town's history.
For places to go, come rain or shine, there's something for ALL ages at this unique motor museum. Thought provoking games & tasks for young ones (Pick up a 'Tiger Cub Pack' at reception); A nostalgic trip into the past for parents and grandparents; A wealth of history for 'time-travellers' to research - they all contribute towards a great day out in Lancashire!
The Museum generates a unique atmosphere with its wonderfully preserved and presented vehicles, and its showcases full of memorabilia and artifacts related to transport history. HANDS-ON DISPLAYS, which are both informative & sometimes a challenge, are here to test one's ingenuity or knowledge in solving logistical problems.
The local history exhibition below is currently on display at the British Commercial Vehicle Museum, sited inside the trailer of a Leyland TX 450. Now, also available as our first online exhibition, you can view its content from the comfort of your own home! Inspired by the art in this exhibition, or by the style and design of the vehicles in the Museum?
The museum offers so much more than simply displaying a fine collection of historic vehicles! It unfolds the true stories of how early pot-holed cart tracks were finally developed into a system of modern highways and motorways; how horse-drawn stage coaches were eventually replaced by motor vehicles with ever increasing power; and how people gained more freedom to travel for both business and pleasure.

A great collection of classic trucks and buses reflecting the commercial vehicles manufacturing history of Leyland. The recently refurbished building provides an excellent setting for a pleasant couple of hours looking at many fascinating exhibits. There is also an excellent gift shop and cafe to complete your visit.

Took my 5 year old twins and 8 year old in here thinking they'd find it interesting for an hour or so....4 yes FOUR hours later including a yummy lunch (with a great kids menu) we had to drag them away from their imaginations. They loved sitting in the fire engine used in the blitz, turning the handle to ring the bell, driving an old bus, sitting in the pope mobile, seeing the model tram go round and learning to drive a lorry in the simulator. Me and their grandparents also found it really fascinating too. All round far better than I expected and the staff were so lovely with the kids too. Highly

This morning we visited this wonderful museum with my 14 year old son and his friend, it had been 10 years since our last visit. This place is amazing, it’s changed quite a bit since we last visited and is now much warmer. There are lots of hand sanitizer stations dotted about the museum and masks available at the entrance. The museum and… all of the vehicles are extremely well maintained, there is a vast amount informative signage and interactive displays and engines. But the best thing about this museum is all the wonderful volunteers, they were kind enough to to spend lots of time

We took two car mad two year old boys here, and they had a lovely time. Beautifully maintained exhibits and space to run round. The staff were very friendly and helpful. You are allowed in some of the exhibits, which went down very well. The cafe was good, and again patient and helpful staff. Would recommend highly.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good value for money. You can sit on the fire engine, go in a bus and other vehicles. Overall a good selection of Leyland vehicles. The lorry Sim was very good and my 2 year old liked it. Shop wasn't over priced. Needs more parking spaces, but overall killed an hour for my wee yin.
Enthusiasts would probably stay longer.
