Lytham Windmill Museum
Lytham's best known landmarks, the Windmill and the Old Lifeboat House contain a seasonal museum with a series of exhibits focussed on the "History of Mills and Milling", the "Great Lifeboat Disaster" and the "Heritage of Lytham St Annes and the Fylde Area". The Museum, which annually attracts over 20,000 visitors from all parts of the world, was established in 1989 by Lytham Heritage Group.

It is run voluntarily by The Group's members and houses exhibitions and displays spread over 5 floors, including a full size pulling and sailing lifeboat from 1901, explanations of the milling processes and a history of the Grade II listed buildings. The basement shows a tableau of life in Victorian Lytham.

Lytham windmill is probably the best known land mark of this coastal resort. They open the building to visitors and have a small museum inside.

Spectacular sunrise this morning. Just some photographers and dog walkers around. Great views across the Ribble estuary. Well worth getting up for.

Free entry and a nice visit, would recommend. A lot larger inside than you would imagine! Downstairs a lot of history from the area, how people used to live, examples of school life. Upstairs the history of the windmill itself, and lots to see in how the windmill used to operate.

1st visit here, it’s run entirely by volunteers who are doing a great job. Very interesting inside the pictures show the area in bygone time. Didn’t even know it had been a working grain milling mill. Next door in the old lifeboat house is a lifeboat and more pictures. Free admission but it’s well worth a donation on leaving.

Became an in joke as my wife had mentioned the famous Lytham lighthouse. She's the local girl. In a fascinating location and in great condition. Could not find a plaque that gave any history though.
If you go, get a drink and cake at Lowther gardens. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely self-isolating, socially distanced walk down the front at Lytham, looking at the beautiful Windmill, the expansive Lytham Green and the RNLI station and reading local history information boards. We walked from the RNLI station down the boardwalk to the sea edge. It's a very blustery day today, great for clearing the mind. Lots of small family groups were enjoying themselves, kite-flying, dog exercising, buying ice-cream and queueing at the hotels that have been able to serve takeaways safely (soft drinks, beer in plastic pint glasses etc.). A lovely place to potter about and explore
