Cumbria's Museum Of Military Life
Cumbria's only visitor attraction that tells the 300-year story of the county's Infantry Regiment and its soldiers past and present. Cumbria's Museum of Military Life is run by the King's Own Royal Border Regiment Museum Trust, a Registered Charitable Trust No. 271943 and accredited under the Arts Council of England Accreditation Scheme.

Services
Originally set up in 2004, the Friends aim to organise and run events not only to make the public more aware of the museum, but also to raise funds for alterations and for the purchase of new acquisitions and equipment. Members of the Friends enjoy free access to the Museum (including all temporary exhibitions) and invitations to a variety of events, some at the Castle and others elsewhere in the county.
The Museum has been located in Carlisle Castle since 1932 but in 2014, with the help of Heritage Lottery Funding, it was moved from the Inner Ward to Alma block in the Outer Ward. This provided more space and better access for visitors, and gives us the opportunity to display items more effectively.
Please be aware that whilst the Museum is still accepting new Research Enquiries, there may be a delay in receiving the results whilst we catch up after temporary closure. Cumbria's Museum of Military Life offers a service to help you find out more about a soldier who served in one of our Regiments.
Imphal is the former games room of the regimental institute but is now the Museum's main lecture and meeting room. Imphal offers an inspiring venue for conferences, seminars, presentations and board meetings. Kohima is the former NAAFI and restaurant and includes the original bar which has been restored.
By giving today you will directly support the Museum which is run by a charitable trust No. 271943 and a small dedicated team of staff and volunteers. Our only guaranteed source of funding comes from admission charges. To keep the Museum open and to maintain the building we rely on many forms of fundraising, most importantly donations.

Very interesting small museum with a warm welcome and good exhibits. The video talks on the way round helped to follow the history.

I came here to visit with my brother at the beginning of August and we were impressed with the exposed items! It really takes you back in time and gradually brings you back to the present day! Nice to visit!
