HEJ Coffee was conceived in Sweden and born in Bermondsey. Following a brief marriage to a large Swedish coffee conglomerate, the team left the big corporate world to go back to what they loved most. After the divorce they kept the name, the caf and the strong Swedish values. It was the starting point to carry on the dream, continuing their passion for all things coffee.
Today we're artisan neighbourhood coffee shops, we roast our beans in-house at our London roastery in Elephant & Castle, and we're a barista school - helping to champion baristas to make better coffee. As wholesale coffee suppliers we also deliver coffee beans to businesses, restaurants and cafes. Great coffee, great breakfast, great pastries!

Ordered cheese and tomato sourdough toastie and this is what I got. The edge of the tomato that’s hard and unpleasant to eat. The bacon brioche was even less appetising. Shame since the ingredients seem to be of good quality which gets the 2 stars plus 1 for the coffee but there was no care in the preparation. Still sour about getting served tomato edges that are barely edible.

I’m local and Hej used to be one of my favourite places to go and work, they always had fantastic tasty salads. This is no longer the case and I can no longer work there because the WiFi is absolutely rubbish, another thing which didn’t use to be the case. I really wish they’d get it sorted but the staff don’t seem to care. This place has definitely gone downhill a lot, such a shame.

For a cute coffee shop experience, Hej is adorable. Cozy seating, a variety of little things to buy, and pretty good coffee. It's a bit crowded, and little too warm, but it's decent coffee and better than most of the other coffee shops in the area. In fact, it's probably better than most of them in London. Not a lot of variety, but the coffee is decent.

Good local coffee and breakfast tucked away on the far side of Bermondsey Square, with a Scandinavian influence. After having lived in South London for 2 years, I somehow never managed to stop in until after I had moved away. Lots of fresh bread from local companies as well as some quiches and funky, eclectic urban decor. A few nice outdoor seats with flowers abound, otherwise a good amount of space inside.

I'm a big fan of Hej Coffee. My only regret is that I've walked past Bermondsey Square so many times and never gone in - hey hey, so many wasted Hej opportunities!
This is a lovely little spot: not big, but super-sweet. If you're lucky enough to happen upon Hej during pleasant weather there are several tables next to the most perfectly arranged window boxes. Inclement weather? That's ok, sidle up to a small little stool, or sit at the window, or at the long working table; Hej's got options!
I have only had their coffee and teas, never their food, though it's worth

Super Cute place! I was so Happy after following Hej! on Instagram for some time that I now by chance only live a walking distance from them .
The coffee was great, even though I embarressed myself by my lack of knowledge on a "real" cappuccino (THANKS SWEDEN!) They very politly made me a latte.
Next time I will be sure to try their Flat white!
My only downside would be the cakes... The Lemon loaf they served was frankly the blandest Cake I'v ever eaten. Not hardly any hint of Lemon and so dry it only dissolved into crumbles.
SUCH A DISAPOINTMENT since its one of My favorites

My go to coffee hang - I would say every Sunday but literally any day of the week I can spare I'll head here!
Soya latte is the best I've found yet in London and although small it's got a nice chilled, Bermondsey community vibe so sharing a table (one time a chair) with strangers is totally acceptable and welcomed (must be the Danish vibe).
Dantes Flowers hang out the front selling their wares - absolutely stunning bouquets put together at your request and beautiful jars of wild flowers, which also adorn the tables inside (very Instagram worthy next to your coffee).
And you MUST

Nice little coffee shop just a few steps away from the main street. We had an oreo cheesecake, filter coffee, and a flat white. All delicious and perfect for an afternoon. The space is very cosy and friendly, a comfortable place to hang out whether you're reading, working, or catching up with friends. A bit more of a laidback crowd than what you would normally get in coffee shops in the centre of London. I would definitely be back!

Hej is another great addition to the cafes on/near Bermondsey Street. If it's not the coffee that brings you in, it's the beautiful flower mart they have outside. Beautiful to look at but as you would expect, very £££. The coffee is little above average in terms of price point but definitely worth coming to check it out on the weekend!

Hidden gem tucked inside the Bermondsey Square market, next to a lovely flower stand (Dante).
Wandered in and was so pleasantly surprised. Great staff and service, perfectly prepared porridge and cup of tea, apple muffin for takeaway that was equally yummy.
Indoor cozy seating for about 15 people and a few outdoor tables nestled among flowers. Not too loud at all and great wifi.
If I ever get lost in this neighborhood (again), I will definitely be back. :)

Super relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere! I felt really comfortable being there even if I was alone. The carrot cake is to die for and tastes ultra fresh and home made as it has the most carroty taste I've ever tasted in a carrot cake. If you're a small eater like me, I warn you not to take a whole piece for yourself, it's way too much!
Honestly I could have stayed there for hours while reading my book and enjoying my coffee. The problem is that they have no toilet. So unless you have a super bladder, your time there has to be limited. I'm thinking that maybe they did this on

The Cinnamon Bun I had here was the best I'd ever had. And I say that having been exposed to Swedish cuisine from living with Swedes for years, journeying across Sweden for three weeks and having many a Swedish friend. The bun was warm. The bun had jam. The bun had cinnamon. The bun was nourishing. It elicited much joy.
I had a 'Great white' flat white too, which again was pretty darn good. I like the option of having free extra shots "if you can take it," which is rare to see. They have the usual coffee kit for sale (V60s, grinders etc), including their house coffee

Thank you, Hej. Thank you for making excellent coffee, with great service, in a nice place to relax.
This is the friendliest batch of baristas this side of the Thames. They are happy to make recommendations, and seem to really take pride in providing excellent coffee (and they do!). Additionally, the Scandinavian interior is fresh and bright. Just what you need in foggy London.
I haven't made it through all the pastries yet, but I highly recommend the banana peanut butter bread, or the banana nutella blondies. Don't share these. You will want them all to yourself.
Keep it up Hej

Today I finally managed to venture down South to Bermondsey to check out HEJ Coffee. It is a lovely, clean and simple coffee shop, Scandinavian style at its best.
Of course, besides sampling a decent and quite strong flat white, I could not leave without tasting a cinnamon bun. Slightly warm, it was as sticky as you expect - and delicious.
HEJ Coffee is another Swedish place in London to watch. I will definitely have to come back to check out the meatballs...
