Wincanton Health Centre was purpose built in 2011 to provide general practice services to Wincanton and the surrounding villages. The practice joined Symphony Healthcare Services in 2018 and offers a multidisciplinary team consisting of GP's, Nurse Practitioners and Paramedic Practitioners, along with a highly skilled team of Nurses and HCA's.

We currently have just under 8,950 registered patients including the two local residential homes. We look after the inpatients of the Community Hospital and also offer a Minor Injury Unit service during our opening hours.
Services
You will be registered with the doctor who has the fewest patients during the month in which you apply to join the practice. This is for administrative purposes only and you may ask to see whichever doctor or healthcare professional you wish. When phoning for an appointment please specify if you have a preference as to which doctor or clinician you see.
We are only able to do blood tests if these have been requested either by us or another NHS or Private service. A blood test is when a sample of blood is taken for testing in a laboratory. Blood tests have a wide range of uses and are one of the most common types of medical test. A blood test usually involves the phlebotomist taking a blood sample from a blood vessel in your arm.
Home visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability. You may be triaged by a health care professional to determine whether or not a home visit is an appropriate solution. It may be that a health care professional can deal with the problem via a telephone or video call, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance if required.
If you are yet to sign up for Patient Access you will need to register first; this is easy to do. Alternatively, telephone reception and we will post it out to you. Once you have your letter you can then register online here and follow the instructions to create your patient access account. Please order in a reasonable time and do not expect to collect a prescription the same day that you order it.
The receptionists may advise the patient whether the result is normal however they are not qualified to comment further so if you require an explanation they will submit a request for the doctor to contact you. Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection.

Level of care you get depends on what receptionist you get!! Spoke to Lisa who was nice and very helpful! Other two I have spoken to are so rude, seems they couldn't care less about helping anyone. So gutted I had to move to Wincanton because this is not a good service at all.

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU HAVE A CHRONIC HEALTH CONDITION OR FERTILITY ISSUES!
Too many times I have gone to an appointment in severe pain and had one of their "doctors" or "nurses" ask me if the pain is "really that bad", deprive me of adequate medication to handle my endometriosis, and generally be rude and uninformed.
In regards to fertility, they have been beyond useless and made the process of being referred to a fertility clinic (which I'm still fighting for!) that much harder, despite several pregnancy losses, and having severe endometriosis.
If you want GOOD healthcare, avoid at all costs

Let's hope the medical team are friendlier and more polite than the reception team! Twice I've been there to register and twice I've been treated with rudeness and indifference. (I haven't even seen a doctor yet!) 2 stars as it looks modern and clean or it would be 1 Star!

Having emailed the new Ask My Gp app I got a call back quite quickly. However, having to give my blood pressure results over the intercom to the receptionist whilst standing outside on the pavement is unacceptable!! Surely this cannot be the way forward for our health 'care'.

Very poor service. Majority of the staff aren’t helpful or friendly. Poor communication with other hospitals, as I’ve been waiting since June to get some results back, now it’s December and still haven’t received them. Definitely would not recommend.

Worst doctors surgery i have ever experienced. Reception staff are rude and just talk over you, if you have a ill child dont take them here you will be dumped into a acute team who dont know anything, and if you have any medical conditions that require long term medication this surgery messes up your medication prescription each an every month. If there was another surgery to go to i would! AVOID

Thank you to all the staff including reception and telephone service; for curing, supporting and delivering a great service. Friendly, clean and efficient.
Inspite of the well documented NHS cuts, our Wincanton health centre manages to rise above and deliver first class health care for all.

The practice is clean and pleasant. The reception staff are attentive and accommodating. There are issues with getting to see a GP but that's not the practices fault, thats a nationwide problem. They have a triage service for on the day appointments which is excellent. Every professional I have encountered at the surgery have been excellent. It's a good practice with proactive solutions to the increasing pressure on the NHS.

Such a shame the wait is too long for the doctors. However I am so overwhelmed with the compassion from Jo one of the practice nurses whom will always see me no matter what. Support me with my phioba of needles through blood tests and injections. And will always answer any questions I have. It's great to know that if she requires a second opinion from a GP that she will always check when I'm seeing her, so that I can go away with my mind at rest! Thank you for everything Jo.

Can't get to see a doctor unless you want to wait a week. The Nurse Practitioner is lovely but she is so busy doing a doctor's job you now have to wait a week to see her as well. The receptionists seem to triage the patients and the whole system is crazy. Try and keep healthy if you live in Wincanton. Apparently they can't recruit any doctors.

Totally disgusted with the new telephone system. Asked for a Dr's appt for my daughter and was told that the receptionist couldn't make me an appt but i had to speak to the Dr on the phone first and then make an appt with him if he deems it important enough. Will be changing my Dr's.

Absolute joke, people know when they need to SEE a doctor, not have a phone call
