Our mission is to increase public awareness, appreciation and understanding of Sherborne's natural, historic and cultural heritage through the acquisition, preservation and display of a unique collection of items that are particularly relevant to the area. We will play an active role in the community, creating a centre of inspiration, education and enjoyment for all, while providing excellent standards of customer service.
We will endeavour to reduce all physical, cultural, social, intellectual, financial and psychological barriers to access. Bearing in mind our commitment to future generations, our policies will be governed by the principles of resilience and sustainability and governed by the Museum Association's Code of Ethics.

Services
Sherborne Museum is located in a prime central position halfway along Church Lane in close proximity to the Abbey and also to the Conduit at the bottom of Cheap Street, the main commercial road in town where you will find shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. We are within walking distance of the Almshouse and the two Castles - so the Museum can provide the basis for a great day out.
As you can see, we have an exciting programme of winter talks lined up for the forthcoming season. All will take place in the Digby Memorial Church Hall (Digby Road, Sherborne, DT9 3NL). Doors open from 1.30pm and talks begin promptly at 2pm. Tickets: 5 to include light refreshments; entry is free to members of Sherborne Museum (except for the two memorial lectures).
Our shop may be small but it is packed with a wide range of items from our exclusive greetings cards featuring our favourite objects from the museum to our newly expanded range of quality pocket money toys and games for children. These include microscopes, sticker books, kites and traditional games.
As you enter, you are standing in the Reception area where our Museum Shop is housed. Prominently on display is our unique medieval wall-painting which was discovered in Tudor Rose Cottage in Long Street.
Created c. 1480, it probably features Richard Beauchamp, Bishop of Salisbury 1450-81 with a devil in a boot, known to be the attribute of a popular cult figure named John Schorne, a pious man who was said to have created a healing spring for his parishioners in North Marston, Bucks, as well as banishing demons.

The outer shell of this Parkinsonia Ammonite has been polished away to reveal the delicate intricacies of the suture lines dividing it into chambers. The spiral has always been a fascinating occurrence in natural forms. The inside lid of this seventeenth century puzzle-lock strong-box, designed after a Nuremburg model, reminds me of a poem with a particularly complex rhyming scheme.

Took my 85yo father as I knew he would enjoy seeing some of the vehicles he would have owned and driven during his driving years. I don’t know who enjoyed it more me or him.
Certainly took me back to my childhood and remembrance of some of the family cars and fond memories from travelling places in them.
Great inside and outdoor facilities and cafe.
There’s a go karting track right next door if your feeling a little adventurous with a decent sized out side track.

It might be small but it's great! The staff are very friendly and welcoming from the moment you walk in. Today was our second visit as I was keen to see the yarn spinners. As it turns out, my two boys (age 10 & 11) were very interested! They both had a try on the spinning wheel and were fascinated by it. Thanks to the two ladies demonstrating.
