We tell the story of Bruton's past and present through the display of artefacts from the Jurassic, Roman, Saxon and medieval times, along with more contemporary displays. Domestic objects, 20th century shoes, the unique sculptures of WWII German refugee, Ernst Blensdorf and the writing desk used by the American writer John Steinbeck, who lived in Bruton in 1959, are highlights.
We also represent our community in our changing display CASESPACE, where we show contemporary art and collections. Casespace is a museum case or two, sometimes a wall, where anything can be exhibited: it changes regularly. Become a Friend from just 10 a year, and receive a range of benefits including invitations to Casespace previews.

Artefacts from the Jurassic, Roman, Saxon and medieval times, and the beautiful Church of St Mary the Virgin are all part of our history. Agriculture, markets and mills brought prosperity; almshouses and great schools were founded. Then came toll-roads and railways. Artists and writers, notably Ernst Blensdorf and John Steinbeck worked here; and the changing exhibits witness Bruton's continuing creativity.
