Ashoka Restaurant
Situated on the 95-97 Church Road, Hove our 37 yr old family restaurant Ashoka Tandoori has brought to its diners the fine taste of traditional cooking in a clay oven where the food is exposed to live fire using wood or charcoal giving it a distinct rustic flavor. Our chefs are trained in the preparation of tandoori cuisine using the traditional clay oven where the food is cooked over an intense fire using either charcoal or wood.

What adds to the flavor is the chef's expert use of freshly ground spices, marinade and the oven with the right temperature that gives the dish the distinctive smokey flavor and soft texture!.

NYE. Awful- OD'd with sugar and no taste of spices. Poppadoms were great. Didn't bother tasting the wine.

New years eve 2022. Had a meal with a friend, the staff could not speak English, couldn't undrstand any questions. Asked for a pint of carlsberg at beginning of night, then got another pint and got half pint, and was told it was a pint. The man did not know what he was talking about. The waiters were very rude , the communication was very poor. Spoilt the evening wont go there again.

Service was really good and the dishes well presented and tasty overall. The rice was a bit too "oily" tho. Would go back.

When the family feel the urge to go out for a curry, as opposed to the traditional takeaway, there is only one choice in Brighton & Hove: the Ashoka.

The staff are always friendly, and the food is divine. The food is piping hot, and the sheer range of dishes provided ensure that there is something for all tastes, and tolerances to spiciness.

I thoroughly recommend the Ashoka, which is two minutes walk from the NPC car park in Hove

If you're into feeling like crap while you eat, Ashoka is the restaurant for you. Nestled on Church Road in Hove, my friends and I excitedly entered the empty restaurant around 6:30pm. Despite there being nobody else in the establishment, the staff promptly started behaving as though they were run off their feet.

When we ordered, we were barked at in a clipped "next" and told we had to first go around and order a main, then our rice, and then any other sides. Since there were 6 of us, this did take a little while. I'm not sure why the server had never realized he could probably

Having been to the Ashoka, many times, my last visit was very disappointing. We used to love the Ashoka, despite it used to be one of our favourites, it has certainly gone down hill. The quality of the food has not changed, the food has always been fantastic. The prices are very expensive, far too expensive for my liking. The meal we had there came to £100, to me that's a lot of money for 2 people. We went there the day before Valentine's Day. We were asked if asked if we would like poppadoms & drinks, so we said yes please. We hadn't long started, they asked for our order,

I've probably had over 100 meals from this place over the years both eating and and taking out and they've all been great. I've always been treated very well in the restaurant and take outs have always been delivered promptly and correctly, sometimes with extras thrown in. I've yet to find a better Indian restaurant in Hove.

The Ashoka used to be a favourite back in the 1980s but alas it's now the home of expensive, flavourless food & nonchalant service. Particular lowlights of our bland £84 one-course meal for 4 were the 6 popadoms for £7.50 and the £4.95 for 3 chapatis! The £9 service charge hurt too. Avoid the Ashoka, it's a real shocker.

Nothing special to report here: Ashoka offers your most basic of Indian food, an oddity considering its reputation and facade. What looks like a big, jolly Indian restaurant turns out to be a larger version of one of the more tame restaurants around town, offering little of real distinction. A couple of special dishes, or something out of the ordinary, would be well appreciated.

Ashoka looks, from the outside, like quite a swanky locale. It is pretty huge, extending across two old shop fronts, and the decor is elegant and refined. However, it only lets you down from there. Inside, the decor is

This 'authentic' Indian restaurant didn't really much out of the ordinary. I came here and had a chicken biryani, despite being sold as a medium strength curry, it was unfortunately rather mild.

As mentioned by Mike, from the outside, Ashoko looks quite well polished and sophisticated, but the inside fails to be that, while also failing to invoke the memories of a traditional Indian restaurant that has too often been replaced with these quasi-European 'lounges'.

The food was ok, it just left me feeling like I could have been better served elsewhere.

Having heard such good things about this place, I was fairly surprised by the barely above average quality to price ratio. Per head you're probably looking at spending upwards of £15, which is fairly standard, but having entered with high expectations my evening was a little soured. I think you need to understand that despite it's grand façade, Ashoka is in the mid-range market for Indian restaurants. For example, the food is by no means poor but due to the décor it feels more like a colonial Indian as opposed to a traditional Indian restaurant. I can't help but think that Ashoka
