Greenwood provides a nursery school service in a day care setting for children aged 18 months to 5 years old. It is open all year round from 8am to 6:30pm. Greenwood understands that every child is unique and that all children develop in their own different ways.

We strongly believe in the importance of harnessing children's imagination through their play so we can help nurture their creativity and develop a learning experience to 'tailor-fit' the individual child. We see our classrooms as the 'third teacher' providing child led access to a variety of different learning zones strategically placed with all the tools and toys needed to help a child's development.
The 'original' Greenwood School was established in the mid-1950s by Geoffrey and Pat Sexton. Known as 'Sir' by parents, staff, children and even his wife, Geoff was an extremely intelligent Classicist, who was badly injured in the tank corps during the Second World War.

Working with his dedicated, enthusiastic and devoted wife Pat, Geoff's wartime injuries did not hinder in any way their establishment of a small and very successful Pre Prep school in Newbury. It was greatly admired and respected, not only by the parents and boys, but also by the considerable number of schools to which the Greenwood boys moved on.
Seeds are the youngest class and are aged between 1.5 yrs and 2.5 yrs. As well as the other activities on offer the Seeds will focus on Heuristic play once a week to help develop their prime areas of learning. Saplings are aged between 2.5 yrs and 3.5 yrs.

This classroom is a transition class and though they will always have their morning circle times together they will spend most of their day with either the Seeds or Sycamores so there is a smooth transition process during their time at the school.Sycamores class is for children 3.5 years or over. As well as the other activities on offer the Sycamores will do Jolly Phonics, reading and science experiments to help them prepare for 'Big School'.
The children attend forest school every week. For the over 3's our Forest school is a shrubbery at the end of the King Georges park. The walk is over 1km and goes through the 'running fields' past the 'monkey climbing tree' over the 'roly-poly mountains' all the way to our forest school. On top of this we will frequently visit the bigger parks like Wimbledon Common to extend our forest experience.
We are constantly keeping in touch with Signature Wimbledon looking for ways to maintain our relationship that we have built up over the last three years. In recent years intergenerational learning has been at the forefront of early years education around the world. It started in Seattle over 25 years ago and has grown in prominence ever since being picked up in Japan and all around Europe.
