To travel your pet will need a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination, and will need an "animal health certificate" which is an extensive document valid for only 4 months onward travel, ie pets will need a new one for each trip/holiday. These take quite a lot of time and preparation by our vets so we would appreciate as much notice as possible when making any travel requests.
If you have any more specific questions regarding your proposed trip then please contact us by email reception@highamvets.com. Hi, I'm Charly the founder of Higham Vets. I am here to provide the best possible care for your pet and peace of mind for you. We genuinely go out of our way to make sure every pet and animal receives the outcomes we would expect for our own loved ones.

Services
It was a struggle in every sense but thanks to the loyalty and support of our clients and community we managed to open a modern and fully equipped surgery. It was a wonderful day with presentations from National Fox Welfare Society, Cats Protection and Nick Amis, father to our own doggy model Hector.
Ensuring your pet receives the best available care and outcomes will always be our primary goal. However, it is also important you understand as much as possible about your pet's health and any issues affecting it. We always take the time to explain any diagnostics with you and of course you should ask all the questions you may have until you are satisfied.
At Higham Vets we are very much against over-vaccinating and therefore follow the most up to date WSAVA guidelines. Essentially this means only giving a full vaccination when testing demonstrates the necessity - usually no more frequently than every 3 years. The simple answer to this question is that prevention is better than cure.
Reaction to flea bites can be variable. On some animals they go unnoticed, whilst others can be extremely itchy, have areas of hair loss and scabs on the skin. Severe infestation may even result in anaemia, especially in young kittens. Fleas can also transmit tapeworm. The most common flea that affects cats and dogs is the cat flea.

My cat was taken in with a broken jaw after being run over, he was treated with kindness and compassion. After being operated on straight away was allowed home same day.
Staff kept me updated at all times and any questions were answered, very reassuring at a stressful time and he is now well on way to full recovery with very reasonable priced treatment.

I cannot tell you how lucky the pet owners of Rushden and Higham Ferrers are to have these guys on hand as their vet. We visited friends this weekend and our springer had some issues that couldn’t wait until
We got home to Norfolk. The Vet and entire team instantly put as at ease and were very personable and above all, professional. A lovely experience for us and more importantly, the woof. The only negative is that they’re not our Vets!!! Cheers guys 👍 🐾 🐾

We had to phone today for our cat Cleo and she was seen within a couple of hours which is almost unheard of at most vets.
The receptionist was friendly and the vet was kind, knowledgeable and lovely with our girl. Cleo already seems to be feeling more like her normal self. Cannot recommend Higham Vets highly enough.

The surgery itself is lovely, a nice big airy waiting room with pretty seating. Charly is lovely as are all the staff at the surgery. They are quick to put your mind at ease in the best times and the worst times. My mum recently lost her dog that was unique as he was special, special to us both really and Charly did what she could but we had to say goodbye to him because he was so poorly. She made the whole experience easier to cope with.
