In 2007, Advent Advocacy was founded by Benjamin Satkunan. Ben had a lifelong belief in the power of advocacy for people experiencing mental health difficulties, and motivated by the anticipated inclusion of statutory advocacy in the Mental Health Act, Ben founded Advent Advocacy. We now provide independent advocacy in over 130 hospitals, residential units, care homes and a number of local authorities in England and Wales.
This means that every year, we work with and for thousands of people to provide independent support for their mental health and wellbeing needs. In 2017, we launched an initiative designed to support the mental health needs of university, school and college students. We now visit a number of universities in London.

Services
We work throughout the United Kingdom visiting hospitals, care homes and residential mental health care environments covering a wide array of specialties ranging from Forensic services through to Child and Adolescent Services. We also work with people living in the community and visit universities, schools, colleges and businesses providing mental health advocacy and wellbeing support.
Ben graduated from University College London with a degree in Physiology, the study of which broadened an interest in human science and led to a move into mental health. As Managing Director of Advent Advocacy, Ben has built upon the principle of providing the highest possible quality advocacy for all clients and providers, regardless of size, location or specialism.
Our team ethos is simple: person first, diagnosis second. We enjoy spending time with people, getting to know them as individuals with a past, a present and a future. We know this helps us advocate for our clients in a truly person-centred manner. We have unconditional positive regard for the people we work for and work with.
In 2018, we formed our Advisory Board. The Advisory Board supports our organisational objectives, providing challenge and resources to help us meet our aims and goals. The Advisory Board ensures that every decision and action we take is informed by our values and leads to the best possible experiences for the people who use our advocacy services.
We deliver an excellent service for our clients, and we seek dedicated and proactive individuals with a proven track record of having an impact when supporting vulnerable groups to join our fast-growing and supportive team. An awareness of the nature of mental health diagnoses, human rights, learning disabilities, equality and diversity, and the ability to research complex and sensitive issues independently is essential to the post.
