St Mary's Primary School is situated in the Parish of Melmount. The school opened in 2012 as a result of the amalgamation of St Mary's Boys' and St Mary's Girls' Primary schools. We have an enrollment of 648 pupils, 596 primary school pupils and 52 nursery pupils. St Mary's has a long tradition of inclusion and adaptations to the school buildings enable children with disability to attend.
The permanent staff comprises of the Principal, 2 Vice-Principals, 24 teachers and 17 classroom assistants (mainly special needs). We put very strong emphasis on the three-way partnership between home, school and our parish community. Regular contact between parents and the school is encouraged. The school operates on a split site, Junior School (Nursery and P1-P4) and the Senior School (P5 - 7).

Services
Hello and a big warm welcome from the PTFA to all pupils, parents and friends of St Mary's Primary School. Our principal aim as a PFTA (Parents, Teachers and Friends Association) is to raise funds and assist the school in providing an enriched curriculum for our children and enhance their learning experiences.
At St. Mary's P.S. our Catholic faith is central to the day-to-day life of our school and to all aspects of the curriculum. Our School currently use the Alive O programme, supplemented with other resources selected by class teachers. We seek to support our pupils in extending their knowledge about Catholicism and to learn to apply the values and messages of the scriptures to their everyday lives.
Our School have recognised that there is an ever increasing need to educate and guide our pupils in their knowledge and understanding of Relationships and Sexual Education (RSE). To address this need, we have adopted an RSE programme, 'In The Beginning' which will be implemented throughout each year group from Primary 2 to Primary 7.
Personal Development and Mutual Understanding (PDMU) is a specific learning area. The purpose of P.D.M.U. as a separate area of learning within the curriculum is to provide the opportunity for attention to be given to personal and emotional development, health and safety, relationships with others and the development of a greater understanding of their place in the community and of its interdependent nature.
The purpose of Physical Education as a separate area within the Northern Ireland Primary Curriculum is to provide the opportunity for specific attention to be given to the physical development, health and well-being of children.
Through a broad and balanced Physical Education programme, children should develop their knowledge, understanding and skills enabling them to participate and perform competently and confidently in a range of physical activities. All children should experience a sense of fun, enjoyment and achievement through a variety of progressively challenging and innovative activities.
