Choose a landing area and picture how the ball will roll from there. Then select appropriate club, holding it further down the grip than normal, gripping as softly as you do for putting. Taking a narrow stance, position with the ball in the middle. Distribute weight so that 70% is on the front foot whilst keeping your body relatively still.
Stand upright with your feet shoulder width apart; then bend from the waist forward, keeping the spine straight. Flex the knees slightly for better balance and make sure the weight is more towards the balls of the feet. The head should be slightly up with the chin clear of the chest, to allow the shoulders to turn more freely.
Aim the putter at that target and align your ball parallel to that line. Try imaging train tracks; the ball to target line forming 1 track & your body alignment forming the 2nd. Grip the club softly, imagine you are holding a baby's hand, then rock your shoulders to move the putter head so that the club moves back and forth in a smooth stroke.
Take a slightly wider stance than you would for chipping and distribute your weight about 60-40 in favour of the front foot. Take a soft grip on the club, gripping about an inch down the grip. Position the ball just back of centre of the stance; this will help to make a descending blow onto the ball.
