The cliff top Abbey dominates ancient Whitby, built in the ravine at the mouth of the beautiful river Esk. Spreading below; a harmony of alleys and narrow streets climb down to the busy quayside.

From these centuries old streets, 199 steps lead up to the parish Church of St Mary, one of the finest examples of Anglo Saxon churches in the country and whose churchyard inspired Bram Stoker to conceive on his visit to Whitby the setting for his world famous book - Dracula.

Great place to visit. Only place showing football, Everywhere else on a Tuesday night decided to have an open mic night or quiz night. Even let my son stay until full time so he could watch the whole match.

Horrible place. Apparebtly ordered two drinks with two different bar man by mistake.
Bar manager got aggressive instantly rather than trying to resolve the situation
Shame as he is losing money for the Bar and the owner. No attempt whatsoever to resolve.
We are 32 years old. Not some troublesome kids.

Good surroundings but beer, particularly 'Ghouly' was atrocious.. Very vinegary and when I told the staff about it, just trying to be helpful, not even to seek a replacement, they didn't seem particularly interested. Pub was relatively busy so the lack of attention might have had something to do with that.. Who knows.

As a pub it looks ok, buy don't go in for something to eat or you will be bitterly disappointed.
You pay for an adult carvery and get a small plate that looks like it's been cleaned with a floor cloth.
Definitely won't be eating there again.
