We might look closed while the building work is ongoing but we are very much open for business. The Old Sawmill Tearoom is a haven for all good food lovers. Serving light lunches and home baking nestled at the foot of Skiddaw in the Lake District. We are situated in the heart of the Lake District, at the foot of Dodd Fell, Near Keswick.
We cater for a wide range of customers from hikers, mountain bikers, visitors to the historic Mirehouse and gardens and passing trade. A warm welcome is guaranteed, and the visitor can enjoy wholesome, home cooking with generous servings. The tearoom was originally a working sawmill until 1970 and it was converted to its present use in 1981.

There is plenty to do in the area of The Old Sawmill. Dodd Wood, belonging to the forestry commission is just outside our front door, with its many trails, walks and cycling to suit all ages. Having taken a walk round the gardens on Saturday, I thought we would enjoy a cup of tea at your tearoom. I have to say how shocked I was to find that not only did no one in the que have facemasks on to enter your premises, but the poor young girl serving inside had no screen protection either. This venue is being visited by people from all over… the country, and the very fact that Cumbria is heading in the wrong direction regarding Covid 19 numbers shouldn’t be surprising, when establishments like this ignore safe working environments for its staff and customers.
